Here's how you can adopt a senior dog

Older dogs make wonderful buddies, but they tend to get overlooked at shelters. My Old Dog: Rescued Pets with Remarkable Second Acts is a book full of stories of celebs and ordinary people who adopted older shelter dogs and saw their lives improve dramatically in the process.

Laura T. Coffey is the author of the book and in honour of 'Adopt a Senior Pet Month', she recently sat down with Melissa to talk all about it. You can watch that conversation in the video clip above.

During the segment, Laura and Melissa also highlighted a few precious senior dogs who are looking for a home. Take a look at them below.

NAME: Pilsner
AGE: 8 years old
BREED: Chinese Shar-Pei, German Shepherd Mix
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW: According to her foster family, Pilsner is a quiet, smart, and reserved dog. It takes time to earn her trust but once she bonds with you, she'll wag her tail and run to greet you when you come home. She's friendly and playful with both dogs and cats.

NAME: Sasha
AGE: 8 years old
BREED: Shepherd mix
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW: Sasha arrived at Dog Tales from Miami over a year ago when she was rescued from euthanasia. She is deaf and is looking for a patience family who can be her ears. She is very respondent to hand signals and is quite playful for a senior dog.

AGE: 9 years old
BREED: American Bulldog
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW: Tank is a staff favourite, and a joy to be around. He loves to give “paw” and his favourite hobby is snuggling.

NAME: Linda
AGE: 12 years old
BREED: Akita mix
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW: Linda is a beautiful senior dog rescued from euthanasia in Miami. She is extremely sweet, gentle and full of love. Linda is completely blind and is looking for a quiet home where she can retire.

NAME: Gracie
AGE: 8 years old
BREED: Border Collie mix
WAHT YOU SHOULD KNOW: Gracie is a sweet and shy lady looking for a loving family who enjoys short walks but lots of affection!

NAME: Shennanigan
AGE: 10 years old
BREED: Border Collie mix
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW: Shennanigan is a low energy type of girl but loves her walks. She is looking for a quiet household where she can spend her days strolling through the neighbourhood and relaxing alongside her family.
