The harrowing story of one mother’s attempt to rescue her daughter from ISIS

A new documentary called The Way Out shows a mother’s harrowing two and a half year journey to bring her daughter back from ISIS.

Their names have been changed for privacy purposes, but the doc refers to the mother as Saeeda, and her daughter is referred to as Amina.

Amina left Montreal at the age of 19 to join the terror group, but after arriving in Syria she regretted her decision and realized she made a terrible mistake. However, she quickly found herself married to an ISIS fighter, gave birth to his daughter and became pregnant with another.

Amina was rescued in October 2017 but is currently being held in the Kurdish-controlled territory in Syria, who is working with the Canadian government to decide her fate.

In the video clip above, Anne-Marie sits down with the documentary’s co-director, Michelle Shephard, to learn more about Saeeda and Amina’s harrowing story.
