The biggest wedding trends for 2017

From venues and decor to fashion and food, saying “I do” is definitely not the only decision you'll make on your special day. Weddingbells editor-in-chief Alison McGill shares the top trends for the upcoming wedding season.

Graphic lace gowns
One of the hottest trends spotted on 2017 bridal fashion runways was lace, but not the traditional, dainty, and delicate fabric typically featured on bridal gowns. This year, designers like Vera Wang are using ornate, oversized statement laces to create sexy, yet feminine, gowns that flash just a hint of skin.

Oversized bouquets
Colossal, billowy arrangements are the biggest trend in flowers. The bigger, the better!

Bejewelled updos
Step aside, tiaras. This year, the wedding hair accessory of choice is the brooch. The key to achieving this look is adorning your simple and chic updo with multiple whimsical pieces.

Pearl accessories
How do you modernize the most classic bridal accessory of all time? By piling on miles of pearls in different shapes, colours, and sizes, of course.

Lush greenery
Greenery is the Pantone Colour of the Year in 2017, and a great way to showcase the shade in a big, beautiful way at your wedding is with foraged garlands decorating your reception tables.

Floral armbands
Think of a modern day corsage wrapped tied around the bicep for a look that's ultra-hip, mod and feminine.

Floral cakes
Floral patterns are having a moment. Grand and glorious cake designs featuring fresh flowers or incredible hand-sculpted blooms are serious showstoppers.

Persian love cakes
This confection is traditionally made with rosewater and cardamom and is finished with a drizzle of icing, rose petals and pistachios.

Prosecco with popsicles
Signature cocktails don't get much cooler than this. Part bubbly, part ice pop, there's no better celebratory refreshment to serve on a hot summer day than glasses of Prosecco garnished with popsicles.

Bunches of balloons
Once a decorative accent reserved for children's birthday parties, balloons are becoming a modern wedding staple.

St. Lucia
The tiny Caribbean island of St. Lucia is ideal for couples on the hunt for an elevated take on a tropical vacation.
