Creepy costumes, masked celebrities, and a season-long guessing game are the basis of this smash reality show, which became one of the most talked-about series last season when it hit North American airwaves. Now it’s coming to CTV for season two, and we’re all donning crazy costumes to celebrate.
Who’s in it
Aside from a slew of masked celebrities whose identities are kept on total lockdown? We’ve got host Nick Cannon, along with judges Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger and Robin Thicke.
Based on a South Korean format, the musical competition features disguised celebrities facing off each week. As the clues are revealed, the judges spend most of their time trying to guess each performer’s identity, sometimes correctly, but always with hilarious results.
It’s easy to shrug this one off based on the creepy costumes the celebrities wear, but the guessing game turned out to be the most addictive thing on the Internet last year. That’s why the show was renewed for not one but two seasons, and rumour has it that this year it’s going to be even harder to guess who the celeb contestants are.
We’re guessing even bigger stars will perform this time around too—not that the recruits from last year weren’t notable. T-Pain proved once and for all that he can actually sing when he walked away with the competition, but he had to beat out the likes of La Toya Jackson, Donny Osmond, Joey Fatone, Gladys Knight, Ricki Lake, and a slew of others to get there.
Whoever this year’s competitors are, the best part about the series truly is guessing their secret identities. According to Variety
only seven people on production actually knew who was under the masks last year, to the point where McCarthy even thought her husband, Donnie Wahlberg, might be one of them.
Spoiler: he wasn’t. But maybe he will be in the near future.
