Growing up on the West Coast, Eugene Cheng’s parents owned a restaurant, so cooking is second nature to him. He has great memories of family dinners; his parents would pick up ocean fresh seafood at the wharf, including spot prawns, oysters, and Dungeness crab. “Chinese cooking brings everyone together, it’s communal eating and an opportunity to bond over great food.” said Cheng. His love of travel, having taken him to more than 65 countries, has provided a unique insight into food and culture. These experiences fuel his passion in cooking. Cheng excelled in rowing at a young age, and still coaches at a competitive level. The intensity of his athletic training, combined with his relentless perfectionism, should come in handy as he enters the MasterChef Canada Kitchen.
