A dream became a reality for “MasterChef Canada” finalist Mary Berg, who battled it out Sunday on the Season 3 finale for the win against fellow competitor Jeremy Senaris.
“It is such a dream come true, it is literally a dream. I never thought this would be a reality,” says Mary.
“Making it to the top 40 was amazing, making it to the top 10 was my goal, but winning is just surreal – absolutely surreal. I’m really excited!”
After surviving the ultimate pressure test on the finale, Mary shares who she dedicated her winning menu to.
“I wanted to cook from my heart really just to dedicate to my family the love I have for them and my memories. It was the best thing I have ever done. I am so proud of the menu that I put up and the plates that I put out!”
But Mary drew inspiration from herself for her Beet Cured Trout appetizer, which she says helped set the tone for the night.
“My appetizer for the finale I really just wanted to put something that is me on a plate. People tell me I’m a little bubbly and happy so I wanted something that was bright, sunny and zingy with lots of colour to get the judges excited for the next two courses.”
Mary even took a trip down memory lane revealing her most memorable moment on the show.
“Working with Jeremy on the tag-team was probably one of my most favourite cooks. Jeremy’s strengths are my weaknesses and vice versa. We called each other the ‘dream team’ and then we found each other on the season finale and had to be worst enemies,” Mary laughs.
“Standing next to Jeremy in the finale I was totally comfortable with whatever the outcome was. I’m so happy that I won, but I truly would have been happy if Jeremy had beaten me because he is a fantastic cook and I have learned so much from him.”
As for what’s next for Mary – she really just wants to enjoy being named Canada’s MasterChef!
“I’m so excited about that! I’m also so excited for all of the opportunities that will come my way. Currently I am doing some catering and also working on a project with Bell Media and Proper Television. Stuff is in the works and I am just excited for the future.”
Proving to Canada that ladies can kick butt in the kitchen too, Mary hints at how she will be celebrating her big win.
“I’m going to have myself a beer and just celebrate with my family, and my fiancé.” (Since the show ended Mary has got engaged).
“I’m thrilled and so excited!”
