When the explosive Season 3 finale of “Grimm” came to a close, Capt. Renard had been shot, Adalind was up to her old tricks and on her way to find her baby and Nick had lost his powers.
And when Season 4 kicks off Friday at 9 p.m. ET on CTV, the fallout from these events will definitely be felt, with everyone wondering how Nick will adjust to no longer being a Grimm.
“How will he deal with losing his powers? Will he be the same cop? The same boyfriend? The same friend? The same threat to Wesen? It's a disability and it changes things for as long as he's no longer a Grimm,” says actor David Giuntoli, in a recent conference call.
“(But) he's kind of enjoying his new normalcy, I think, in a lot of ways. But he also knows that the Wesen are out there.”
(Trubel, Nick and Juliette react to the chaos following Monroe and Rosalee's wedding in the Season 4 premiere)
Giuntoli says Nick will have to rely more on Trubel – who is now the only Grimm in town – and his best Blutbad bud Monroe.
“He's going to be using his team of Wesen and Grimms to try to do what he used to be able to do. But he doesn't have his powers anymore, and that means that not only can he not see the Wesen, he's just not as powerful as he was.”
As fans recall, this all traces back to Adalind, who wanted to get back at Nick for not doing more to get her baby back from the Royals. (What she doesn’t know is baby Diana is actually in safe keeping with Nick’s mom). After taking a potion that made her look like Juliette, Adalind seduced Nick and was able to steal his powers.
But Nick didn’t realize he was duped until he was on the way to Monroe and Rosalee’s wedding with Juliette, who was none too happy about her boyfriend hooking up with a Hexenbiest, whether he knew it or not.
Giuntoli says the couple will have a lot to work through when the new season returns.
(A troubled Juliette returns home after the wedding)
“The Nick and Adalind spell links us in a very profound and mysterious way. Something goes down in order to reverse a spell that she has put on me that is just crazy. And it affects Juliette and I in a very intense way.”
Amidst all this craziness, newlyweds Monroe and Rosalee have had their wedded bliss interrupted, Capt. Renard’s life is hanging in the balance and Sgt. Wu is very close to finding out Wesen do exist.
(Still in their wedding attire, Monroe and Rosalee arrive at the house to speak with Juliette)
“Monroe and Rosalee, (their) honeymoon (is) postponed due to the chaos that's ensued. Wu is getting very suspicious of what he's been seeing. Me, obviously, where'd the Grimm go? I'm freaking out. Hank's just having a good time and (then there’s) Juliette … everybody is in a state of chaos.”
