What if God was one of us—just like the Joan Osborne song says. You know, like a social-media-addicted, podcast-listening, celebrity clickbait addict with a Facebook account? What if he (or she) was one of those people who still insist on using Mark Zuckerberg’s super annoying ‘poke’ feature? If God sent you an unsolicited friend request (like, without even a casual run-in or two at your local coffee shop as a pretext), would you accept? Would you be cool with God sliding into your DMs on the regular? Would you ‘like’ God’s cute kitten photos or GoFundMe campaign requests?
That’s the premise of the new fantasy/drama that stars Brandon Micheal Hall as Miles Finer, a podcast host who styles himself as a “pesky atheist” out to make his audience question their own beliefs.
When Miles is ‘friended’ by the Almighty, the ‘pokes’ start coming fast and furious and he’s nudged towards helping complete strangers for some sort of larger purpose… maybe. It’s all part of the mystery of existence. Violett Beane (The Flash) stars opposite Hall. Playing a senior writer at an online publication, her character is desperate for a story. That’s when God (or “God”) brings them together.
God Friended Me also stars Suraj Sharma (Homeland, Life of Pi) and will air Sundays at 8 p.m. ET this fall on CTV.
