The father of a baby who died tragically after a fall from a balcony at Pearson airport told CTV Toronto his family is trying hard "to heal."
Little Lucca Romano, who was 15-months-old, died Sunday after squirming out of his mother Veronica's arms and falling to his death.
"It was a nightmare, it's still a nightmare to us," his father Flavio Romano said. He said his surviving son, four-year-old Massimo asks for his brother.
"We explained what happened. We told him the truth, we can't hide anything," said Romano.
He said Lucca was a happy baby, always smiling and laughing, and brought his family a lot of joy.
The family was about to board a flight to Argentina Sunday, where Lucca was to be baptized.
Now, Air Canada has offered to pay for the family's flight, so Lucca can be buried there.
Romano said he wanted to thank Peel Regional Police, the Argentinean consulate, and complete strangers in Ontario and Winnipeg for their support.
The family used to live in Winnipeg but recently moved to Burlington, Ont. to be closer to Veronica's brother.
Witnesses at the scene were horrified Monday as they watched the accident.
Veronica was holding Lucca in one arm and a suitcase in another. As Lucca wriggled out of her arms, she dropped the suitcase to get a better grip on him. But it was too late and the boy fell two stories.
The death has been ruled an accident.

I applaud the budget, even though Health Care and education may stay unscathed. Sadly this cannot last and I worry to later this year where cuts will become enviable. If anything, this provides the Wildrose Alliance plenty of ammo when an election is called.
