I am generally against religion, but this does seem like a smart move by the Vatican. A small number of unhappy Anglicans have probably been requesting something like this for years, so the Pope probably didn't come up with this idea on his own.

It will now be easier for Anglicans to enter the Catholic church, after the Pope decreed that converts can preserve a number of religious traditions and practices.
Cardinal William Levada announced the changes at a press conference in Vatican City, which include allowing married Anglican priests and seminarians to become ordained Catholic priests.
The changes are expected to appeal to Anglicans who wish to return to the Catholic Church and who are unhappy with the direction of the Anglican Communion.
"Those Anglicans who have approached the Holy See have made clear their desire for full, visible unity in the one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church," Levada said. "At the same time, they have told us of the importance of their Anglican traditions of spirituality and worship for their faith journey."
The new provision, he said, will "facilitate a kind of corporate reunion of Anglican groups" into the Catholic Church.
A release from the Holy See Press Office indicated that the changes provide "a single canonical model for the universal Church which is adaptable to various local situations and equitable to former Anglicans in its universal application."
Anglicans split from the Catholic Church in 1534, after English King Henry VIII was refused a marriage annulment.
Today, the Catholic Church has 1.1 billion members worldwide, while the global Anglican Church has some 77 million members.
The Anglican community has seen defections over the years as its more conservative members have objected to the election of women and gay bishops and the blessing of same-sex unions.
The ease of conversion for Anglicans into the Catholic Church was made possible by Pope Benedict XVI approving a new church provision that will allow Anglicans to worship in a series of new Catholic entities called personal ordinariates.
Established in existing Catholic churches, the personal ordinariates will be headed by former Anglican prelates who will provide spiritual care for Anglicans who wish to be Catholic.
In London, Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams, the Anglican spiritual leader, said the changes announced by the Vatican were not a commentary on problems within the Anglican Communion.
"It has no negative impact on the relations of the communion as a whole to the Roman Catholic church as a whole," Williams said at a news conference.
In a separate joint statement issued by Williams and Vincent Gerard Nichols, the Catholic Archbishop of Westminster, said Pope Benedict's decision ends "a period of uncertainty" for Anglicans wishing to convert to Catholicism.

I applaud the budget, even though Health Care and education may stay unscathed. Sadly this cannot last and I worry to later this year where cuts will become enviable. If anything, this provides the Wildrose Alliance plenty of ammo when an election is called.

I wonder how we members of the "Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada" will be handled, since our denomination, is in full communion with the "Anglican Church of Canada".
Since our denomination is pushing this same un-Christian / un-Biblical philosophy, as the Anglicans, there are many of us left on the outside within the E.L.C.I.C.Maybe the door can be opened farther, by the Vatican, and let us who follow the traditions of Dr. Martin Luther, & his interpretations of the True Holy Scriptures ~ (BIBLE).Now we are told that Toronto has won the "WORLD PRIDE DAY" ~ Isn't that a wonderful gift for CANADIANS to share with the world.Christianity is so splintered and broken from the Gospel of Jesus Christ & the teachings of the "Torah & Gospel" ~ (Bible) it is going to make a return to "One Holy Catholic & Apostolic Church" a reality in centuries to come.A person's faith and beliefs are not mandated by membership in a church (that institution was man made not GOD made).

Does it not achieve the same effect as if it were a male priest? (putting aside the fact that they may preach in a different way, I'd like to believe that the messages they preach from within the Bible are the same). Gay priests as well, perhaps there is fear that they might become child molesters, which is not fair to them in the least. Just because they are gay and working in the church does not mean they will start sexually abusing young boys. I can't say anything on it being morally wrong in the eyes of God because well I don't think it is, but it is a free country and they are allowed to think what they want much to the dismay of the people around them. We don't have to agree with them, and many don't. Love is love is love, some say God is love some don't. Let each person be who he or she wishes, and if that happens to be a female/gay priest then so be it.
