The Jonas Brothers, Kelly Clarkson, Lady Gaga, the Black Eyed Peas...the 2009 MuchMusic Video Awards Show pulls out all the stops for Canadian fans.
Hear that sound? It's the gush of Jonas Brothers fans counting down the seconds until the über-boy pop stars swoop into Toronto to co-host the 2009 MuchMusic Video Awards."
"The MMVAs always put on a ridiculously amazing awards show. But this year, it will be the first time we've ever had a celebrity co-host," says MuchMusic VJ Sarah Taylor.
"Having the Jonas Brothers co-host and perform is a really big deal. They're mega-stars. They've got a brand new record out. We really appreciate them coming to Toronto for the show," Taylor told CTV.ca.
In previous years the MMVAs have featured performances by Rihanna, Avril Lavigne, The Killers, Simple Plan, New Kids On The Block, City and Colour, Kanye West, Nelly Furtado, Britney Spears, Hedley, Fergie and other major artists from Canada and the United States.
This 2009 MMVA lineup of stars, presenters and performers is no less stellar.
Nickelback and R&B singer Danny Fernandes lead with five nominations going into the show, followed by Vancouver-based pop-punk band Marianas Trench with four nods.
Fernandes, k-os, Marianas Trench, Nickelback and The Stills are in the running for 2009's Video of the Year.
Beyonce, Britney Spears, Kanye West, Katy Perry, Kelly Clarkson, Lady Gaga, Lil' Wayne, Miley Cyrus, Kevin Rudolf and T.I. are among the big-name artists vying for International Video of the Year.
First-ever American Idol Kelly Clarkson will perform for this year's screaming fans.
Joining the two time Grammy-Award pop singer will be such acts as Electro diva Lady Gaga, the Black Eyed Peas, five-time MMVA winner Billy Talent, Alexisonfire, Canadian rapper Classified and Shiloh.
Star presenters also include "Twilight's" Taylor Lautner and Rachelle Lefevre, blogger king Perez Hilton, "The Hills'" Audrina Patridge, celebrity spawn Rumer Willis and reality TV's Kim Kardashian.
"This show is the closest thing Canada has to the Grammy Awards or the Oscars. It's a huge show that has become an international phenomenon," says Taylor.
The 2009 MuchMusic Video Awards air live on Sunday, June 21 at 9 p.m. ET from MuchMusic's Queen Street West headquarters in downtown Toronto.
The MMVA 09 Red Carpet Special airs live at 8 p.m.
MMVA wristband holders can line-up for the show beginning at 6 a.m. on Sunday.
MMVA organizers are also reminding fans and their parents that Toronto's police will not allow would-be attendees to camp out on the streets overnight.
Taylor's personal picks for the MMVAs
"To be honest, I look forward to the sound checks. I love them because it's an intimate look at the bands, the backup singers and dancers and how it all comes together. But not everyone is as lucky as I am to have such a privileged view," says Taylor.
Just like MuchMusic's fans Taylor has her favourites to watch at this year's show.
"I'm all about Lady Gaga," says Taylor. "She's a very different kind of pop star. We haven't seen anything like her for a long time, if ever. Teens love her. She's adored by artists like Marilyn Manson. She's original. Plus she's a very interesting woman who is changing the idea of what it means to be sexy.""
Also on Taylor's must-see list: Bombshell Kardashian and Perez Hilton.
"Perez is like an honorary Canadian to us," says Taylor. "We talk to him at MuchMusic every week. He's a big supporter of Canadian talent."
More than big names and hot performers, however, it's the fans who are the real stars of the MMVAs says Taylor.
"The MMVAs dishes up a great opportunity for us to celebrate the brightest talents we have in Canada. But at the end of the day it's all about the fans. That fan access is what makes the show so special," says Taylor.
"Knowing that the fans are right there out on the streets and at the show is what sells artists when they are approached to come and play at the MMVAs."
As Taylor says, "I don't think you can find that kind of access at any other awards show in the world."

I applaud the budget, even though Health Care and education may stay unscathed. Sadly this cannot last and I worry to later this year where cuts will become enviable. If anything, this provides the Wildrose Alliance plenty of ammo when an election is called.
