TORONTO One of the longest running love triangles may be about to come to an end.
Comic book legend Archie Andrews is going to propose to Veronica later this year, according to Archie Comics' official website.
It's promoting the release of Archie issue number 600, due to go on sale Sept. 8.
The website tells fans to prepare themselves for the Archie story they thought they'd never see.
The competition between Veronica and Betty for Archie's attention has been the cornerstone of Archie Comics for 65 years.
The Archie website is calling it the "the Archie Story of the Century."
The website shows an image of the issue with a blue suited Archie on one knee in front of a beaming Veronica with a caption that reads "yes."
Betty is teary-eyed and pal Jughead looks stunned.
One comment posted on the website indicated that Archie is marrying the wrong girl.
"Personally I think he should marry Betty," a person named Kelly posted.
"She is cuter, more down to earth and not as flighty as Veronica."
Did Archie make the right choice? Tell us what you think.

I applaud the budget, even though Health Care and education may stay unscathed. Sadly this cannot last and I worry to later this year where cuts will become enviable. If anything, this provides the Wildrose Alliance plenty of ammo when an election is called.

It may not be a top news story but at least it is something light amongst all the doom and gloom reported in the news today. Personally, I think he will be making the wrong choice. Betty is a much better fit for him :)

I've been reading Archie comics for over 30 years, still reading now but only with older stories as I find the newer stories from the last 20 years being so-so. The newest stories with new look of the Archie gang are quite good finally.
The Archie company had been using the love triangle for angles to keep us, the fans, for 65 years in gussing who Archie will hook up. I doubt they'll break the ritual!
Good Luck Archie Andrews, and thanks for all the years keeping Riverdale the way it is for 65 years!

You call this news?! N.Korea's testing nuclear weapons and could be going to war against S.Korea AGAIN and you're reporting how an imaginary comic book character is going to propose?
I'd understand if this story was tucked away in the entertainment section but no, it's out on the front page!
The editor of CTV must be a big Archie fan.

I don't even read Archie, but I'm sure that it'll turn out that there was someone waiting for poor Betty all along, much like Betty was waiting for Archie.

Here's a real item that ought to make the news but never does: young men between 19 and 35 in North America and Europe are opting out of marriage, or any long-term committment to women, according to a university study (google marriage strike).
Over 35% of these men say they plan never to marry. Many more are delaying marriage for as long as possible.
This has the potential to be a cultural earthquake, but it is never covered by the press because it is "politically incorrect" to discuss whther men have a choice about their relationship to women. Only women, it seems, are newsworthy when it comes to gender relationships.
But for many young men, marriage has become too problematic, and not really necessary. Divorce laws are stacked against them, and many see older men going through hell trying to see their kids while paying outrageous sums in alimony.
Meanwhile, women's liberation has made many women financially independent, and sexually available.
So why bother to marry?
Go ahead and get married Archie.
And when you get divorced, take Veronica for every penny she's got.

I've been reading Archie for almost 25 years, and I always thought Veronica was quite cruel towards him in the majority of the stories.I really think Betty would be a better choice for him because she truly cares about Archie a lot more than Veronica ever has.

I would've taken Betty, blondes have more fun.
Also she's smarter, and nicer than Veronica...
Oh poor Archie...

BTW, what does Reggie Mantle have to say about all this? This may turn the Archie comics into the Punisher.

Betty would be the better choice because she is down to earth and "real" whereas Veronica is a user and a spoiled brat.
I have read Archie Comics "forever"
I believe marriage is too final for this comic unless you are going into retirement (Heaven Forbid).

California won't allow gay marriage. Canada has allowed gay marriage for years, and somehow the sky has not fallen on our heads.
Anyone ever notice that Jughead doesn't like girls, and just eats all the time? Trying to suppress some "feelings" Juggie?
It's 2009 people, ARCHIE SHOULD MARRY JUGHEAD!!

What about poor Betty? Of course the article says he is going to propose.I don't think it says she is going to accept.HaHa.Maybe her dad will kick his butt out of town.
Unless they plan on ending publication of Archie comic books,I think I'm of the same opinion as "Paul in Regina".

No, it may not be news, but I am totally disheartened reading about the recession and people who kill little children. It's just too painful to contemplate, so it's nice to see something light instead! I think that Archie will get a "no" to his proposal, and that Betty and Veronica will go on to become successful career women. Girl Power!

For God's sake man, think about this! I know the allure of the wealthy sophisticated brunette is powerful but Betty is the gal for you buddy!
Sweet, honest and forthright. What more do you need?
