The host of a Fox News program has apologized for a segment on the Canadian military that Defence Minister Peter MacKay called "disgusting" and "crass."
A group of pundits on "Red Eye with Greg Gutfeld," which airs weekdays at 3 a.m. on Fox News, each took turns trashing Canada and its military during an episode that aired on March 17.
Gutfeld mocked Lt.-Gen. Andrew Leslie, chief of land staff, who suggested in early March that the military may need a year-long break in operations due to personnel and equipment shortages.
"Once their Afghan mission winds down sometime in 2011, certain members of the Canadian military are looking to take a much-deserved break. And by certain members I mean all of them," Gutfeld said.
"Meaning, the Canadian military wants to take a breather to do some yoga, paint landscapes, run on the beach in gorgeous white Capri pants."
Gutfeld issued an apology Monday afternoon saying, "I realize that my words may have been misunderstood. It was not my intent to disrespect the brave men, women and families of the Canadian military, and for that I apologize."
But the host also seemed to defend his program, adding "Red Eye is a satirical take on the news, in which all topics are addressed in a lighthearted, humorous and ridiculous manner."
In the four-minute segment, Gutfeld asked the other three members of his panel: "Isn't this the perfect time to invade this ridiculous country? They have no army!"
Panelist Doug Benson, a comedian, replied: "I didn't even know they were in the war. I thought that's where you go when you don't want to fight. Go chill in Canada."
Benson was due to perform at an Edmonton comedy club in April, but that gig has been cancelled after threats were received about his performance.
MacKay expresses anger
In an interview with CTV Newsnet earlier on Monday, MacKay expressed his anger over the comments and demanded an apology.
"It's crass, it's insensitive, it's in fact disgusting given the timing where Canada is just receiving back four fallen heroes here at CFB Trenton," MacKay said.
On Friday, Master Cpl. Scott Vernelli, 28, Cpl. Tyler Crooks, 24, Trooper Jack Bouthillier, 20, and Trooper Corey Joseph Hayes, 22, were killed in two separate IED blasts that injured another five soldiers.
The deaths bring the total number of Canadian soldiers killed in Afghanistan to 116.
MacKay said the Canadian government will be demanding an apology from the panel and from Fox.
"There should be an apology -- to the families in particular, and to the Canadian Forces and to Canada generally -- given the sacrifice and the commitment that we've demonstrated in Afghanistan."
Earlier Monday, Conservative strategist Geoff Norquay said the comments on the show were insulting to Canadian soldiers and show that the host was ignorant of the fact that Canadian troops have been working hard in Afghanistan.
"What could anybody with common sense say about his kind of trash? It's ignorant, it's inappropriate, it's insulting," Norquay said during an interview on Canada AM. "It's insulting to the 116 Canadian troops who have given their lives and paid the supreme sacrifice while we've been in Afghanistan."
While the controversial comments were made nearly a week ago, they have only come to light in Canada in recent days.
An outraged Canadian posted the clip from the show to YouTube with a comment that says, "Fox News belittles and mocks the Canadian military." It goes on to say: "These are the people who keep Americans up to date and mis-informed."
Norquay said he hopes Canadians who subscribe to Fox News will cancel those subscriptions and that Canadian advertisers will cancel their business with the network.

Considering the relative size of our military, they should see that we are more than pulling our own weight in Afghanistan.
As far as "taking a break" is concerned, this is absolutely necessary if we want to continue to contribute on a long-term basis. Besides, all parties in the federal government have committed to a withdrawal in 2011, so a "break" is the best we can do right now.

Fox is the only so called conservative minded network in the U.S.
I'd like to see our news networks do some fact finding of their own, instead of parroting what ever any of the U.S. networks say, and taking it as fact.
You won't find much truth on any of the U.S. news networks. They are so partisan for one side or the other, even the Americans have stopped watching them in droves.
Lighten up and just consider how luck you are not to have U.S. style news in Canada.

I have seen plenty of satire on US TV, at our expense, and most of it has been funny and tasteful. But the timing of this just wasn't good. I saw this before the media finally picked up on this segment. It was hard to watch.
Even for this Conservative, I don't like watching Fox News. But I doubt all the noise we make up here will just fall on deaf ears at that network.

By the appearance of the quotes in the article above, it would appear that what these Fox pundits want is for Canadians to be insulted and feel belittled for being known as a nation that values peace.
In a roundabout way I think we should be thanking Fox for spreading that rumour on such a massive scale - our own governments and war supporting citizens certainly haven't been doing a very good job of it in the last few years.
If we actually must rise to the bait and take a formidable swipe back, then why don't we really annoy the hell out of these right wing bozos and leave Afghanistan right now?

But if Canada is not getting credit for its very significant efforts in Afghanistan, whose fault is it really? Probably Canada's - it needs more of a PR push in the US on its efforts. US news outlets will naturally pursue stories like MP's jumping on effigies of the US President (remember Carolyn Parish)? or anti-US demonstrations in Toronto.

Indeed wise advice.
These comments were made by obviously ignorant people who are desperate to say and/or do anything that will keep their names in the media. After all, just how highly held is this idiot when his "show" airs at 3 am? Hardly prime time, except for the redneck fringe.
All these dolts do is once again prove that there is a segment of the Americian population who have no concept of what exists outside their own borders. Sadly this also will be their downfall someday.

We all know that comments like this are many and come from Canadians & Americans alike.
All it takes is no thought or thinking of what one says by engaging their tongue before their brain.
Canadians had lots to say in a very derogative way at President Bush ~ SO !
This is but another loose canon shooting off and thinks he is funny by his comments.

The army of a major (and key) Western nation, employed in an important foreign mission, needs to take a YEAR off?!
That is, indeed, ridiculous.
Fox News hasn't insulted our military, our federal government and unsupportive liberal/socialist politicians in Ottawa have!
We should be embarrassed and ashamed that we've permitted our Canadian military machine to be neglected to the point that we have to pull out of a mission.
Our brave and sacrificing men and women in uniform deserve so much better. Being forced to take a step backwards, after such hard-fought progress (which includes many lost lives), is insulting.
END NOTE: The dramatic effect of mentioning our recently-killed in the article, CTV, doesn't deflect the underlying truth here.

Canadian military spending in terms of troop levels and equipment is known to be deficient. Our government should be building a military force capable of meeting and maintaining our strategic interests.

Ignorance is one thing, what Greg Gutfeld has said and what his panelists have undignified us with... we’ll thems fightin` words!
We are a strong force to contend with. Our death rates have been low in this conflict compared to those suffered by our American Soldier counterparts, but that’s because we have a better military force. We really do.
What were these men and women doing before we entered this Afghanistan Conflict, you may ask? Training, Learning, Bettering our lines of Defence and Intelligence.
We may be polite, but we are a force to recon with. We are not a ridiculous country, we are proud and free of ignorance and intolerance. I would challenge each of these fools to come here and spend one week, no, one day with a member of our Canadian Forces and then see what they have to say for themselves.
Be Proud, Canada! Support our troops and the family network that is the Canadian Forces and know that they do the same every day with every breath.

Candian soldiers are well regarded within the military community.
People understand that the CF is overextended in Afghanistan, and the solution the CF sees is to take a break when the opportunity presents itself.
The US is also overextended, unfortunately they don't have the opportunity for a break, so they're resorting to mercenaries and dirty recruiting/retention tricks to keep their strength up.

However, it is our own fault. As Canadian citizens we allowed the former governments to slash the military in half. We did not want military spending. We seen it as a waste of our money.
Canada hs 65,000 reg force troops and 24,000 reserve forces. Our reserve forces volunteer and cannot be forced to go into theatre. There are 6 million Canadians age appropriate that could be in the military.
The USA has 1.4 million regular force and 1.4 million reservists. with another 59 million age appropriate to join the military.
The Canadian Defence budget is 19.5 billion. The USA budget 583 billion.
The Canadian military allows members to serve until 60, the USA until 49.
The fault lies within the Canadian public. Scream and holler at your MP, tell them to get our military some new equipment.
Tell the government to reopen the bases they closed so that there is room for more military personnel.
Hell turn the GM plant that is going to close into a plant to build new vehicles, tanks, heavy trucks. Open the Windsor textile plant to make new uniforms. Open another to make boots and shoes. Have Bombardier build us planes and helicopters. The list goes on and on.
It is not just the men and women who need a break it is our economy.
Being at war costs a lot of money and we are a small nation in number compaired to the USA. We cannot afford to sustain the cost of the Afghan mission and still replenish the equipment required by the military.
Ignorance is no excuse but remember these are the same people who think we live in igloos and eat seal meat for dinner.

Years ago I attended university in the U.S. I am PRO US! I am not pro you.
You were likely unaware that your comments emerged the same week as 8 Canadian soldiers gave their lives to bring peace to hurting people. These people were actually doing something meaningful and life changing, not merely quipping about whatever popped into their caffeinated minds.
I have numerous American friends, most of whom are enlightened and caring people. The simmering hatred towards America in many parts of the world today is in many ways - not completely - the product of behavior and ignorance the likes of you. The reason Canadian soldiers are in Afghanistan in the first place is to confront hatred; much of which has been birthed and fed by the brash, overbearing, grossly uninformed handful of Americans like you. How ironic that the Canadian military men and women you belittle are fighting against something to which you contribute - even now. Do you have any idea how distasteful your behavior is to decent people everywhere? You probably won't see the connection even when it's pointed out. Isn't the greatest ignorance to not even know one if ignorant?
It might be time to grow up or shut up. Either option would put an end to this kind of drivel.
By the way, I am still Pro American and anti-ignorance. In light of your new President I suspect that puts me on the 'right' side of his administration - with you 'left' out somewhere around 3:00 AM. Hmmm - how irksome for you!

If only we could simply ignore the guy and his ilk, then we would. The issue at hand isn't necessarily that he is profoundly ill-informed about Canada and it's armed forces.
No, the greater and more problematic issue is that this guy is a media personality that is spewing ignorance to the masses. Time is irrelevant: be it 3 AM or 9 PM, this guy is on national television sharing his ignorance with everyone that watches. And when mass media spreads misinformation, no good can come out of it.
But why bother, right? Just one person - what possibly can happen with one guy mouthing off on television? Well, one person may not seem much, but what happens when that one ignorant person turns into many ignorant persons? Like the snowflake that turns a few snowflakes into an avalanche, it becomes a problem.

How can anyone accept such ludicrus and uninformed comments by Greg Gutfield and his flackies. The Canadian Military sends our sons and daughters over to Afghanistan to do a dangerous job. 116 soldiers have died. Does the size of our military diminsh the sacrifice made by these brave men and women? As I write this I am listening to the report about four our soldiers returning home to CFB Trenton - in a box! Comparably speaking, Canada's population is about the same as New York City, approx. 35 million people. So apples to apples our contribution is not insignificant. This guy needs to pay a little more attention to history and the facts before he opens his mouth with such comments.
Our military has been devasted because of the Trudeau years (a pacifist in WWII who did not fight) This is the fault of our governments depleting the funding causing equipment and personnel shortages from our military and certainly has no bearing on the ability of our soldiers. Also take note that when WWII started Canada's military was small but when needed was built up quickly and fought bravely. We fought well before the Americans in WWII. They only entered when Pearl Harbour was bombed by the Japanese while some of their generals were out golfing I might add. This man is ignorant and needs to be educated better. The men and women in our military are to be respected and not treated the way this man has treated them. I am the child of a soldier who fought in WWII. for our freedoms. I am not only proud but grateful for the accomplishments of our soldiers and resent strongly anyone who puts them down in any way shape or form.
It only demonstrates the type of character this man has and it is far beneath the characters of our military personnel.

Dear Fox News:
Come on, just admit it. You're not CNN. It's okay to be jealous - every one experiences jealousy at least once in their lives.
Sure, CNN is insanely popular with profoundly more respect than you (Fox News). And yes, they have anchors (Cooper, Blitzer, King, etc.)that are more well known than Fox anchors (...uh...). And, yes, if there had to be a television in an American politician's room, they would likely request the television be turned to CNN and not Fox.
But who needs them, right? You guys are Fox News - the less popular and less qualified news media outlet as compared to CNN. You guys need idiots like Greg Gutfeld to prop up your viewerships. And since everyone watches CNN most of the time, the only window of opportunity for you guys is the 3 AM window. So go grasp that chance and look like something - you guys need it!

Besides while our Canadian solders deserve more respect , the poor attitude of many Canadians toward the military should be ridiculed.
Finally, let's look at the "anti American " attitude here, before we criticize Americans.

I love Canada so much, and I have only lived here for 3 years so far, while I lived in the US for 15 years after leaving my home country as an adult. I miss certain aspects of my home country, and I even miss certain things from the US, but the deep love I have developed for Canada is something I haven't felt for any of the previous countries I used to call home.
To hear such garbage about the Canadian military, was utterly disgusting, but it only confirms how ignorant and arrogant (some?) Americans are... Very sad... for them.

Please try looking at a map. Sarah Palin actually said that there were parts of AK where you can see Russia, and she was perfectly correct. Please do not get your news from SNL.
People seem to have ignored the fact that Gutfeld was mostly commenting on the difficulties the Canada was having sustaining the Afghan operation, which was perfectly correct. He of course used a flippant, insulting and dismissive tone, but you should hear what he says about American politicians! In any case, it's pretty mild compared to how 22 Minutes and others have trashed the US over the years. Personally I was very offended by the comments made. I currently have a family member based out of CFB Petawawa fighting the war in Afghanistan. Also the timing was inappropriate considering we have just lost four more soldiers. Our soldiers have the right and deserve a well needed break, they do not work a nine to five job. Everyday our soldiers put their lives on the line, separated form their homes and loved ones. Mocking Our troops is just down right inconsiderate and degrading. I am a firm believer that "If you are not willing to stand behind our Troops Than You should stand in front of them." I think the hosts of fox red eye should have to give more than just an apology. To me that is just a slap in the wrist and nobody really learns from it. I think a more consequential punishment should be put in place. Those responsible should have to pay some sort of fine, loss of their jobs, and even imprisonment.
My Heart and condolences go out to the families of our most recent fallen soldiers.
Thank You.

Jesus, just be thankful you aren't in the same geographical position Pakistan, India, Turkey, Iran or other nations are who share borders with hostile nations. Imagine one of those nations "taking a year off" and see how quickly their enemies take advantage of that.
Canada is lucky to share their border with the only global super power. Your military is not always on it's toes, not always fighting and not always dieing.
For a nation like Canada to be burned out after only a decade (half of which was spent in Kabul in Camp Julien. Yes, I served there with the US Army right beside you guys), is just mind boggling.
How can a G8 nation be like this when 3rd world nations have been actively fighting and defending their borders from hostile nations (sometimes bigger than them) for centuries?
I'm not saying Canada should be ashamed, but you should really start to look at yourselves and the state you're in before you point fingers at someone who is (although being distasteful) stating the obvious.

I can appreciate your comments but you need to look into what is meant when Canada says the military needs to 'take a year off'. No one is leaving the Afghan mission. I might poiint out what you supposedly already know: The border with Pakistan is the hottest region in Afghanistan. Everyone knows this.. There are 3 nations covering it. Britain, the US and Canada. What's wrong with that picture? Why isn't France, 3rd largest expensive military, largest European military -- why isn't France lifting a rifle like piddly little Canada is? This is the point Todd. We've been fighting there as hard as anyone as your ally and this is the respect we get?
You say you don't like Fox yet you've completely swallowed this "Year off" misunderstanding so while you don't like them, you accept what they say as fact when it's ridiculously wrong. This is the problem we have with it. As this story points out, this aired on the very day 4 more dead Canadian soldiers came home. So lets just stop with this "year off" stuff, ok?

Good Afternoon,
As an insulted Canadian, I felt a duty to write in with my concerns regarding comments on Red Eye with Greg Gutfeld aired March 17 2009. Please find copied below the email sent to the program. I hope that an apology will be aired soon. I have copied this to other corporate press contacts.
Good Afternoon Mr. Gutfeld;
I would like to express my insult and disgust with the mocking and attacks on our military involvement in Afghanistan.
As a Canadian who does not support this war, I do however fully support the men and women willing to risk their lives in a war that the United States of America started and then abandoned. On the day that your program aired, our military was making preparations to send home 4 fallen soldiers.
It was disgusting that not only you hold our military in such disregard for what they are actually doing, but that you and your entire panel showed the blatant ignorance for your closest alli and trade partner. Everyone of those comments were grossly misinformed and obtuse, and they have outraged every single Canadian. I certainly hope they've outraged Americans as well.
Please keep in mind Mr. Gutfeld, that Canada is the main supplier of your heat, electricity and fuel; best not to bite the hand that feeds.

I agree, that this is one subject which most civilized people see as being off limits for jokes.I can't imagine what went throught any brain matter that they are assumed to have between thier ears.I wold suggest that they educate themselves before making any more forays into the realm of political comedy.
I travel in the USA several times per year. The real people there are great people.True, they don't knw a lot about Canada. But,not surprisingly, most are very engaging when you get into discussions on any issue of the day. And,are also quite surprised to find that Vancouver is not up to it's elbows in snow in the middle of July.
Yes.We have something we feel we should be angry about. But let's not blame American citizens to much. They do a lot of good in the world.Sadly, their education system is lacking on foreign affairs, and their government, like ours,is not always very forthcoming.
Do us all a favour.Go meet some of them.Engage in some relevant conversations, and in the very polite Canadian way, show them who we really are.
Most will be very friendly and pleasantly surprised. In fact, you might find some new friends. They, like the people in Toronto, think they are the universe. Not because they're evil, but because that's what they've been taught.
If you go there expecting to meet a lot of mean and nasty people, you will be disappointed.REAL Americans are just not like that.

I believe Greg Gutfeld and the other comedians on the panel personally respect the Canadian military.
You see many comedy shows that make fun of things that should not be made fun of. But I'm sure these comedians personally don't feel the way their talking about whatever they're making fun of.
But the only way to stop it is not to laugh at these types of jokes.
To show the Canadian soldier that we care, we should send more letters to let them know that we think their peace work is making a difference. Even if we sent a letter before.
Also, when you pass by a Canadian soldier on the street that is back from their mission give them a smile. Or let them know that you support them.
We should also respect the American soldiers in Iraq who have done alot to help the people in Iraq too!
Also the other soldiers from other countries too!

Red Eye is about as much a news program as the Tonight Show. It's takes a satirical look at current events and they intentionally go over the top; no matter what the subject matter.
I missed this episode but the next segment was just as likly to discuss a trade war with China or the latest episode of "Planet Unicorn".
Greg and Bill (the only full time panelists) have both worked for Maxim, Stuff and various other magazines. They are hardly what anyone with a second to do some research would consider news anchors, and they don't pretend to be.
They do occasionally have serious guests on, but even when a Congressman or Governor comes on the topics will range from tax policy to what the best type of gag to use on Greg's pool boy.
The fact that this segment happened in the same week as 4 soldiers were killed may make them seem mean spirited but the segement aired 3 days prior to the tragedy in Afghanistan. The timing was regretable but honestly, when one of the leaders of major military comes forward and says that their entire armed forces will effectively be taking a year off I find it impossible to believe they won't be made fun of.
I would also like to see Andy Levy's "Half-Time" report from this show, for the full story. And if you don't know what I'm talking about you really shouldn't be commenting.

Anyone who has seen this program knows this RedEye group are just a bunch of goofball comedians who make fun of eveyone and everything. One says something ridiculous and outlandish, and then the next one tries to say something even more ridiculous to try to be funny. Occasionally something they say even is funny.
The main point is these are not a group of serious newscasters. They are just comedians who comically brag they insult everyone for a laugh and literally do.
Just be happy we're not Belgium - they get lots, and no one from the group has probably ever been there, or knows where it is.
If someone seriously made those insults it would be a big deal, but these goofballs are definitely no serious.

Americans will have to learn they will have to work damn hard to get any ounce of respect back that they had in the mid to late 90's… thankfully with the election of Obama some have sent a signal that they are trying… then you get nitwits like fox tearing down any progress they have made.

I have no doubt that intelligent Americans know and appreciate the value of Canadian soldiers. Besides, we're not there for the Americans, we're there for the Afghani people.
If there are any Canadian soldiers reading this, know that you have the support of your country. We think you are so brave and we're so very proud of you - our Canadian heroes!!!

I cannot believe how insensitive and ignorant these jack asses are. When ever the Yanks need assistance we Canadians are there to lend a hand. We provide and often give the shirts off of backs to help, and this is the crap we get? 116 Canadian families have lost sons and daughters to this conflict. Many more families are struggling with sons and daughters injured by this conflict. All families who have sons and daughters fighting over there live in fear of bad news. When will the Yanks grow up? Make fun of your own misery - not ours.

When I questionned this man (Moody) about how he could let his host and the other co-hosts make a mockery of our military, Mr. Moody began to comment that The Red Eye was a satire. I advised Mr. Moody that he had begun this conversation off on the wrong foot and that there is nothing satirical about 4 dead soliders returning home to Canada today. He was unaware that this was happening - again another question that I could not understand. A news organization that does not know what is happening in the world, especially with their largest partner is almost everything.
I asked Mr. Moody if he was going to have Mr. Gutfeld appear on the major news agencies, including our own Canadian ones (CBC and CTV). Again I was given the comment that the remarks were made on "The Red Eye" and that is where he would make his statement.
Mr. John Moody and Mr. Greg Gutfeld (along with the other uneducated, lack of integrity, common sense co-hosts) fail to realize that to make a sincere apology for their comments means that you do not justify your position.
I can only hope that our Canadian government, our party leaders including the opposition, stand up and say that this is unacceptable.
We deserve a better apology then what we received. We as Canadians as a whole; but more importantly to our military, their families and to the 116 who are now home.

At any rate, I get my quota of Colbert and Stewart every week and I really don't see much wrong with trying to inject some humor into an otherwise serious situation. If we can't laugh at ourselves then I think we are lost forever.
I'd be more interested in seeing CTV cover Harper's comments with Fox when he mentioned the D word in relation to Canada. One might wonder if it was comments like Harper's in fact that are more of an influence on the way that the U.S. thinks about Canada.

Please accept our deepest condolences and understand that despite ignoramuses like Fox, we (the majority of people) will never forget the sacrifice your family has made. I will observe every Remembrance Day and the young men and women who have served in the Canadian Military will never diminish from my memory, nor my children's. To forget or diminish only gives tyranny another chance. My heart goes out to you every day."

There has been so much anti-Americanism shown in all the various discussions of this video it makes me ashamed to be a Canadian.
If people watched the show for more than the 30 seconds it took to give them an excuse to go on this tirade I'm sure their next protests would be against Greg's musical matchups or they'd be sending letters protesting Andy's treatment of King Albert II.
By this standard any American whose ever seen Rick Mercers talking to Americans segments can assume all Canadian are pretentious snobs and go on their merry way never bothering to learn the truth about Mercer or Candians. That appears to be about the level of research people overreacting to this story are satisfied with.

That said, I find this particularly embarrassing. Perhaps someone ought to remind the boneheads on that show what happened the last time we tried to "invade" Canada. However, I doubt they would have any clue what the war of 1812 was in the first place.
There are many Americans who know and appreciate that Canadian Soldiers have been given the most dangerous and difficult of tasks in this war.
My condolences to the family and friends (and all Canadians) for their losses in Afghanistan.

First time I've heard that name. His 15 minutes of fame aren't painting him in a very flattering light. Maybe he's not a typical American, but his type is the reason for the world's opinion of Americans in general.
I drove along Highway 2 through CFB Trenton today, and when you see the throngs that turn out to show respect to the fallen Canadian soldiers, you realize that this Gutman person just doesn't matter.

You could enlighten your view of the world by reading up on how your brave
American pilots killed four Canadian soldiers and wounded many others some
years ago in Afghanistan? What's more, your pilots repeated this same
stupidity a while later with less tragic results.
You could also read up on how Yanks did the same in WWII. I know a Canadian
veteran whose limb was blown off by American air crews at Falaise Gap
[that's in France]; he told me a joke from that war: When the British flew,
the Germans ducked; when the Canadians bombed, the Germans ducked; but when
the Americans flew, everybody ducked. Hell, an entire Polish tank unit
fighting with the Canadians got wiped out by Yank air crews--another heroic
deed never portrayed by Hollywood.
You could also approach the White House for info on the presidential
citations given Canadian units for aiding and rescuing your soldiers in a
number of conflicts, including Afghanistan.
You say you offer satire? You haven't the intelligence to attempt satire,
let alone offer it. It's fortunate for the world that most Americans are
many, many points brighter than you, your ham-fisted staff, and your guests.
Greg J. Edwards
PS: You might also read up on how your own armed forces are scraping for
fresh recruits to man their own worn out equipment to go after those
"weapons of mass destruction" that your former president fooled you all into
believing were in Iraq. Fortunate for we Canucks, our prime minister at the
time, Jean Chretien [French for John Christian], didn't eat your president's
shovel stuff, meaning that we don't have troops chasing ghosts in Iraq.

We live next door.If I had a choice,I'd move thsi great nation somewhere else.I'm sure Amwericans would love to have Russia,or China on their northern border at the same time as they're under attack on thier southern border.
I'm actually a bit pro USA most of the time.I don't envy their role in the world.
But,for the last couple of decades I've been becoming increasingly concerned about how integrated our countries are becoming.I am very mindful of the fact that good fences build good neighbours. And I continue to believe we need to support NATO and the UN.THere is work to do on this planet and we need to help.
Instead of courting allies in the USA,we should quit whining, and quietly go about re-building our economy, paying down debt, building our military capacity, and looking for allies in NATO and the UN.We will NEVER find many people in the USA who give a rats behind about Canada.Or any other nation outside of their borders. It is,for them, all about the power to dominate the world.
Oddly, the Liberal party that spews the anti USA rhetoric,is the one that refuses to support our military, and fights long and hard to keep us mired in debt, and highly taxed. These are not good recipes for a sovereign Canada. We can't just shut off the gas,so to speak. But if we do it the right way,our children or our grandchildren may be able to.
Don't forget, the Liberal government NEVER once appologized for the anti USA crap they spew out to win elections. And they NEVER follow policies that can free us from American domination.NEVER.
Anyway,it will soon be China in charge.More money and a bigger military.Good work America.

What part of "Once their Afghan mission winds down sometime in 2011, certain members of the Canadian military are looking to take a much-deserved break. And by certain members I mean all of them," Gutfeld said.
"Meaning, the Canadian military wants to take a breather to do some yoga, paint landscapes, run on the beach in gorgeous white Capri pants."
do we NOT understand?
In his apology he is laughing at Canadians for being less than intelligent.
This is not satire, it is downright rude and shows his ignorance. What troubles me is that few if any Americans came to our defence - where is President Obama support for our troops.

This is typical American attitude, and it is very typical Fox News attitude, after all what other respected news corporation would allow a person like Greg Gutfeld who has a IQ that is equal to that of a peanut to have his own talk show, and to let him rant on about something that he thinks he knows, when in fact he has very little knowledge of. After all this man properly thinks that Canada is located south of the United States, and it is because of this American ignorance that makes the United States hated by so many people.
If the US, Fox News, and Greg Gutfeld think that Canada’s young soldiers who have sacrifices their lives for peace in Afghanistan is a big joke and something to laugh about late at night, then I believe that all military personal from all counties that are in Afghanistan; except those from the USA should pull out and let the so called great USA handle it on their own “Bastards”.

The hosts and guests were funny as hell poking fun at Canada!
I loved it!
I just had a friend come home today from Afghanistan after a long tour of duty (yes, Im from Canada), we greeted him with open arms and tears as we havent seen him in months.ALOT of people showed up. Especially since he left his family and job and such to fight with his American buddies. I am going to see him tomorrow and thank him for his contribution for his peacekeeping in that country. He deserves it!! :)
I am sure he hasnt seen the video of Redeye and their poking fun, but I am sure he will love it, he has always had such a great sense of humour :)
I dont know if I mentioned this part yet, but my friend came home this afternoon in a casket with a Canadian Flag on it. One of four BRAVE men to help the US uphold their peace arriving this afternoon.
So to the members of your team, especially Greg Gutfeld. Keep p the great work!
And if it wasnt for the fact I am crying my eyes out right now for a friend I will NEVER see again, except for in a cemetary, I am sure I would be laughing much more.

It sickens me that they could be so ignorant and callous, considering all that Canadians did for them on 9/11 in Nfld., etc.! Shows their lack of education. The only ones with any real knowledge of Canada are those who've moved from here to there or have actually come here to visit so they can have some real intelligent human contact! They take credit for winning the war at Normandy; they'd have all died off w/out Cdn troops who did win it!
