WASHINGTON Safety officials say bird remains in both engines of the US Airways jetliner that ditched in New York's Hudson River last month have been identified as Canada geese.
The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board says experts at the Smithsonian Institution who examined 25 samples of bird remains made the determination.
They have been unable to determine how many birds were involved in the crash, in which all crew members and passengers survived.
Canada geese typically range in size from just under three kilograms to some 5.5 kilograms.
The safety board says the engines on the ditched airliner are designed to withstand a collision with a bird weighing up to 1.8 kilograms without catching fire or being damaged enough to shut down.

I applaud the budget, even though Health Care and education may stay unscathed. Sadly this cannot last and I worry to later this year where cuts will become enviable. If anything, this provides the Wildrose Alliance plenty of ammo when an election is called.
