Students have now been released from a West Vancouver high school after being locked down because of a gun scare for more than three hours this afternoon.

West Vancouver Police ordered Rockridge High School to be locked down just after 1 p.m. Wednesday after responding to calls that one or two people were seen near the school with a firearm.

A full Emergency Response Tactical team, as well as members of the West Vancouver Police department and the RCMP, converged on the school just after the lunch hour.

West Vancouver School Superintendent Geoff Jopson confirms all students and staff are safe at this time.

Several students inside the school told CTV News they heard two people entered the school with what looked like guns.

But a room-to-room sweep of the school by police found no suspects, and police say there were no reports of shots fired.

Jopson says the school has practiced for this type of scenario in the past, and were well prepared for Wednesday's scare.

Around 840 grade eight to 12 students attend the high school, which is located directly across from Caufeild Village Mall on Headland Dr. in West Vancouver. Rockridge includes families from the areas of Bowen Island, West Bay, Caufeild, Gleneagles and Lions Bay.

I do not beleive you should ask for unofficial news reports on something this sensative

Scott

probably a bad idea to be phoning/texting people in a lockdown. Unless you want to draw someone to a ringing phone

Posting these "inside the school text messages" is absoutely irresponsible and serves only to create panic. Get a grip CTV.

Bill

To clarify my son had left class prior to the lock down and went for lunch at Caulfeild Village. The school was then surrounded by police and he could not return. His friends text messaged to him that they could not leave. He then called me from outside the school to say he was fine. 2:30 pm now and police still on site.

Hi me and my class are still in the school and waiting for the room to room search. We have heard there is a bomb threat but we are unsure.

We have been in class hiding for a long time. We saw police with m16s and I'm scared. Apparently there are helicopters and police cars everywhere.

I'm inside the school and I'm telling you it wouldn't be a bomb threat we would be evacuated and they wouldn't be having us turn off lights and having us be quiet. In addition the cops have sniper guns they wouldn't if this was a bomb they wouldn't need them. However you would think it takes less than 2 hrs to find a dude roaming around with a gun. I'm scared but nobody's losing their cool....Although somebody has peed in a bottle. A guy said he heard a gunshot but nobody has heard a gunshot where I am.

right now we are still in lockdown. Using iPod to update.

The school website doesn't have anything posted on the incident, as of 2:48pm. Unless I can't find it, but one would think it would be flagged on the home page anyways.

LIAM - We don't have M16's in Canada. They're C7A1's made by Diemaco

Two other boys and myself are under a shelf; meanwhile the rest of the class is hiding in an office. However we are fine, and everyone is being calm, and smart. The drill has payed off.

Lock downs are what happens in prisons.

This kind of behaviour was protected against in the Magna Carta for a reason.

XXIX. NO Freeman shall be taken or imprisoned, or be disseised of his Freehold, or Liberties, or free Customs, or be outlawed, or exiled, or any other wise destroyed;

These kids are imprisoned. Criminals need to be locked up not civilians for the betterment of the governing powers. Imprisoning students at school is just a way of training them for future abuse.

I'm still in the school and whoever said its irresponsible to text needs to know its the only way to know whats happening and so our parents dont get worried. and also everyone turns their ringer off

apparently the lockdown is over and their were no people with guns. Maybe it was a prank or someone holding something that looked like one?

My daughter texted me to say that she can't call and that she is fine. Not sure how long the school will be locked down.

Mike

Susie

All these comments are doing is creating panic and speculation. The truth about what actually happened will come out soon enough so its best to just sit tight until we now. I am so thankful that all the children are safe.

I hate to break it to you guys, but half the posts that say stuff like "I AM IN THE SCHOOL NOW..." are probably fake. As in, no, the poster was probably not in the school.
