Dan Karaty Blogs About the Top 8

I had an absolute blast at the show. I knew what to expect from the dancers because I've been watching online and have had copies sent to me, but there's nothing like seeing it live.
I really meant what I said about Canadian dancers being second to none. The partnering work was incredible and every genre is just so strong. I had such a good time.
It was fun behind that judging table. It's been a while since I've judged with Mia and we always have a good time up there. We get a good back and forth going. And I had such a good time with Tré and Jean Marc during the audition tour, in Halifax and Montreal. That's where we really started to click.
In terms of my style as a judge, I'm really honest. I like just getting to the point. I usually go in with guns blazing, but with the exception of a few notes, there was no reason to be negative tonight. On the Holland show, I've always got loads to say, but there was nothing really to get after here.
In the Holland show, we're just a week behind Canada so we just got the Top 10. It's been an incredible experience over there. It's really different. I'm the only one speaking English, and I have a translator in my ear the whole time, but it really doesn't matter if you speak Dutch or English -- dancing is universal. The judges over there are more focused on technical notes, where I'm more about the entertainment value.
I have to say, Canadians are damn good!

Thank you for not being over the top with your praise. Thank you too for giving Izaak constructive criticism rather than hitting the kidm on the head. You are a pro!

We appreciate that sentiment, Dan. Online we're being compared to the U.S. all the time and being told by the U.S. watchers that we're not as sharp.
It was an honour to have you here.

Wow! Great show yesterday night. The dancers in top 8 are WOW!!! My preference goes to Lisa, Nico and Vincent. They are beautiful, great dancers technically and WOW...
Nico et Vincent je vous adore. Vous regarder danser est un réel plaisir. Pour moi vous devez être dans le top 4. Bravo et continuez à nous faire frémir! Bisous

Hey Dan! I loved your comments last night about the show, the dancers and Canada in general. I thought Lisa & Nico were super hot in their first dance last night. Personally, I'm not sure why Izaak is still there when Danny & Francis are long gone. That's just not right. I wish the judges could get the message across to the people voting that this is a 'dance' contest, not a 'personality' or 'cuteness' contest. Plus, I think some of the judges' previous negative feedback to Izaak has fueled his fans to vote even more. He's really on borrowed time for several weeks now and I feel bad for the better dancers that have been let go before him. But other than Izaak, it's going to be a tough choice from now on. But I always love it when you're on the show so I wanted to say thanks.

Dan, your expertise and opinions are valued and I'm sure I'm speaking for all fans by saying that we're happy you're a judge. As a fan of the US show since day 1, I've enjoyed watching your critiques over time, and I appreciate how you always "keep it real". I'm so proud of our Canadian top 8, and it's an honor that you love them, too!
Will you do some more choreography for our dancers?
Have fun in Holland, too!
