Amberly Thiessen eliminated from Canadian IdolUpdated Wed. Aug. 13 2008 4:51 PM ET Sheri Block, CTV.ca In a shocking reveal, Canadian Idol's only female competitor, Amberly Thiessen, was the next to be sent home. Thiessen, who hails from Seven Persons, Alta., thought she was safe after competitors Mookie Morris, Mitch MacDonald and Theo Tams were called to join host Ben Mulroney on centre stage, while she, Earl Stevenson and Drew Wright were told to stay seated on the couch. In other weeks, the competitors who are called to the stage during the Results Show are the ones who make up the Bottom 3 while the competitors who stay seated are safe. But not this week. "Someone from our amazing Top 6 is heading home this week," said Ben. "Mitch, Theo and Mookie, you are all safe. That means that Earl, Amberly and Drew, you are tonight's Bottom 3." After some gasps from the audience and a change of positioning for the Idols, it was time for the results. "Canada voted and the Idol who received the fewest number of votes last night and is going home is Amberly." After watching a montage of Amberly's journey on Idol Ben asked the crowd to keep it going for her. "Alright Canada you've got a Top 5 and the Idol Mansion has become a Frat House." Amberly closed out the show with her rendition of Feist's "1234." Before the elimination Ben asked the judges for their thoughts. He first asked Jake Gold if this was going to be one of the best Top 5's we've ever had, regardless of who goes home. "Yeah I think overall we have probably the most interesting Top 5 we've ever had and probably the best musicians of any Top 5 we've ever had," said Jake. Ben asked Farley Flex to give some advice to whoever would be going home. "Well it's simple. The same effort and dedication you put into this you take onto the next thing. When you first auditioned for Canadian Idol you weren't thinking this was my only shot in the world so you go out and do the next thing with the same effort, same desires, and same passion," said Farley. Ben asked Sass Jordan who she was hoping would be safe tonight. "M and M. Mitch and Mookie," said Sass. Ben asked Zack Werner how this competition would change once it's down to five people. "I think one thing we haven't seen yet and that is really important in the five is true spectacle. We've had great singing, great interpretations of songs but I don't think we've seen anybody do something completely radically visually outrageous and I think that's important," said Zack. Earlier in the evening, Montreal rock group Simple Plan performed their latest hit single "Your Love is a Lie" to a crowd of screaming fans in front of the stage. The band had mentored the Idols a few days earlier for "Canadian Rock" week. After their performance, Ben asked lead singer Pierre Bouvier when their fans could see them live again. "Well actually our Canadian tour starts in seven days, starts on the 19th in St. John's, Newfoundland, and we go all across the country so check out the website, www.simpleplan.com, for more dates and details. We'll be in your city!" said Bouvier. Ben then asked him how it felt to be on stage mentoring the Idols. "It was kind of weird at first. We were a little bit nervous because we didn't know if we could do a good job of it but after Earl went through, we talked to the rest of the guys, it was really easy, they were all really nice and it just felt comfortable. It was just a good time." The Idols also performed Sloan's "Money City Maniacs" as a group to celebrate "Canadian Rock" week.
