Hey all,
So....this is it. The final blog before the finale. Intennnnse stuff. I don't think I have ever been more nervous or anxious or excited. It's just an unbelievably overwhelming feeling.
First and foremost I need to thank each and every one of you for making this experience an unforgettable one. Thanks for all of the support and for spending countless hours voting and getting me to this point.
Regardless of the end result, I owe each and every one of the fans a huge thank you.
Second, you are all in for an amazing showdown on Monday night. Right now we are in the middle of rehearsals and I am just getting so excited for the show. I honestly don't think I have ever heard Mitch sound this great, his songs are all unbelievably stunning. Mine are definitely coming along as well, so it'll be a show to remember I'm sure.
Working with John Legend was also an experience. He is so talented and definitely knows a completely different side of the business considering how he is first and foremost a producer and has worked with amazing acts like Lauryn Hill and Kanye West. It was so interesting to take his advice as a producer AND an artist. He really hears things on a completely different level and gave me some great advice for my songs. Sometimes criticism is hard to take- especially when you feel as though you have put your whole heart and soul into a song- but I suppose it is one of the most important things to learn about this business- and that there is so much more to being an artist than being able to SING.
Also considering how this is my last blog- I thought that I would take the opportunity to tell you a little about Mitch- from my point of view.
It's so funny because I remember telling my parents after the first top 24 show that I thought Mitch was going to win. There really is something undeniably genuine about this guy. It has just been such an honor to be in the finals with him. We are really different people- I'm constantly stressed and nervous, and Mitch is usually pretty chill and relaxed.
Opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of stress management. However, in terms of musicality. I have not met anyone who lives and breathes music the way Mitch does- it is in his bones. So regardless of who wins this year, I believe that Canada can't go wrong because we are both willing to work really hard, stay creative, and above all stay true to ourselves as artists and as people.
I just can't believe that this whole experience is going to be over soon.
It has been my life for 3 months now, and it's just bizarre that I've made it this far. I really didn't think it would happen, and now that it has I know I want it so bad. Thanks to everyone who truly believes that I am the next Canadian Idol- your confidence in me just inspires me to work harder, sing harder, dream harder, and love harder.

Hey Everyone,
First of all, thanks for getting me into the top 3. I can't believe it!
I realize with each passing day - how much I want this and how much I am willing to work to achieve it. I said from day one, that I was in this for the long run, and didn't want to go home before I was ready to leave. I have now realized that I will never be ready...I want to win. Not just for winnings sake but to prove all of those people in my life wrong - those who made me feel as though I couldn't win - or wouldn't win. I think that one of those people was me. I don't really think I ever believed that I could make it in the industry - I'm a little bit naive sometimes - so I tend to sell myself short. Being in this competition has taught me so much about myself- including the ability to just trust my instincts and run with what I truly feel in my heart and soul.
Speaking of trusting instincts, this week is going to be a fun time. I think I chose two really great songs. I've performed the one quite a lot as it is part of my set when I do shows back at home - but being able to play it with a full band just made it all the more beautiful. I loooooove string players. Haha. I find that strings just add such a depth of dynamic to a song- and the string players for Idol are seriously brilliant musicians.
Wooooah- I just rambled up a storm here eh!?

Going home was madness- but in a very good way. I was actually pretty nervous about going home, being on the show has kind of kept me in a bubble, we are just so busy all the time so I haven't really had the time to just reflect on the experience at all. When I went home, and was singing in front of thousands of hometown fans, it really made me realize just how far I've come since the beginning.
Almost 10,000 people auditioned for this season of Idol, and now we are down to four. I can't believe it! Just to share the stage with such talent as Earl, Drew, and Mitch blows my mind, and is such an honor.
I am pretty nervous for this week. I've been battling a bad throat infection and I'm pretty swollen but I'm just going to have to push through it I guess eh!?
I picked a couple really great songs this week. They both mean a lot to me, and are completely different than each other so I really hope that you all dig it!!
I can't believe that in just over 2 weeks we are going to have a winner of this show. It's soooo bizarrrrrre. Really though, going home just made me realize how much I want this. I want to take the title- and I want to make music for the rest of my life. Being a part of this show has really taught me to move freely with the ups and downs of the business but one thing that has never wavered is how much I really believe that this is what I am meant to do.

Hey Everyone,
Well, what a crazy shock it was to see Amberly go. I really felt as though she was going to go all the way- and I really miss her already. I don't think I have ever gotten as close to someone in such a short amount of time, and I cherish her friendship a lot. Ah, but regardless of what happens, we will all be hanging out again in a few short weeks for the finale.
This week has proven to be one of the hardest for me. I kind of feel a little bit isolated. It's a strange feeling. I am trying my best to take all of this nervous and anxious energy, and channel it into the Beatles this week. What another daunting task, doing a Beatles song! It's judges' choice to so there is a definite amount of extra added pressure.
I just wanted to also say thank you to all the fans- people who have spent the two hours voting, I owe being here to you- and I appreciate it greatly.
Special thanks to the girls running my fanclub- all the members, and to Puff Mcleod for not only taking a stand for me as a musician and performer, but as a person.
I appreciate it greatly- and I can truly say that my fans are incredible.

Hey Everyone,
Wow, being in the bottom three is definitely not a fun place to be standing. I have so much more respect for all those competitors from past seasons who were able to do it with so much dignity and grace.
It was fun being out there on the stage though- trying something new is always pretty hard the first time- but I hope (as Sir Tom Jones said) that it just gets easier with time and experience.
Saying good-bye to Mark Day was a tough thing to do. We got pretty close out here, and I'll miss him a lot. He was always the person to keep people smiling and laughing, and his energy is definitely going to be missed.
I'm excited for this week too, I am going to take things back to the piano- but try to keep the performance aspect in mind as well. It's going to be a really fun time, and I'm stoked to be able to incorporate the piano again.
I've also been writing a lot of music lately, last night I stayed up and played the piano till about 3:30am and got a good start on about three new songs.
It feels so good to finally be inspired to write something again, I've had writers block for a good 6 months now or so, and it seriously just feels amaaaazing!

Hellooooooooo everyone,
Thanks again for checking in- I appreciate it. This past week has been a really fun time- yesterday we did MTV Cribs, and that was a blast. Ben Mulroney is seriously one of the funniest cats I've ever met, he is such a character, but really down to earth too.
As for this week, I'm not so sure how the UK POP Hits night is going to go down. I'm planning on doing a song that is really out of my element - but I think that that is a good thing. I've actually been thinking about that a lot lately - and I think part of my "problem" in this competition is that my priority has been a little skewed. When I first came into the competition, I thought it was very important to defend who you are as an artist and to begin to define who you are and what you're about on stage.
I think that this is a good thing - to a point. Because if you're so focused on defining what type of artist you already are, you may end up being a little blind to the artist you CAN be.
This is my inspiration going into the UK POP Hits week, there is a side to me that I really haven't shown on the show as of yet, a stronger, don't mess with me type of guy - haha. Everything that I have sung up until now has been really passive and vulnerable, and I really want to take the reigns this week and prove that I have a FIRE to win this - I know now more than anything that this is what I want, and I really want this week to be a turning point for me as an artist and as a performer.
Also, we get to meet Tom Jones this week? Are you kiddddddding me? This guy is a legend and it's going to be such an honor to work with him, and be able to bounce ideas off of him - I'm still kind of in shock that he is going to be here tomorrow, it's going to be insane.
Alright y'all, well I need to submit this and get up to my workshop with Byrd and Mark Lalama, so I'll write again next week.

Hey everyone,
Ahhhh, this week has been really intense. I'm so stoked for the show tomorrow night, but I'm really nervous this week as well. It seems as though the last 6 weeks have just flown by, and the week (or weeks) to come will go by just as fast. Sometimes it's so hard to just slow myself down and allow myself to take it all in.
I've been writing a lot of lyrics lately- just sporadically really- in my journal. I'm really excited to put some of them to music in the next little while. Mostly just about my experience here thus far, and the ups and downs that come with it.
I didn't realize how hard this was going to be. Don't get me wrong, I'm having a friggin' blast, but being away from your support group of family and friends for so long is really starting to take its toll on me. I'm doing everything I can right now to just stay mentally checked in to the competition but the past few days I have found it really hard.
Wooooah, alright already, enough negativity eh? Haha. Thanks again for being interested in my journey on Idol so far, and for coming along on all the ups and downs with me! All my fans (it's so weird to think that I even HAVE fans) have been a fantastic support and I really do feel as though even though I don't have my family and friends out here with me- I have a great support group out there and that's because of people like YOU.

Hey everyone,
This past week has been intense - for a number of reasons. I think one of my biggest struggles throughout the competition thus far has been song choice - I definitely want to impress the judges - but also make sure that I am singing songs that represent who I am as an artist. Singing a Bob Marley tune was such an honour, I have looked up to him as a musician and a person since I was young, but it proved to be a really tough challenge for me; trying to put myself in his head space when he wrote No Woman No Cry was so hard - but with the help of Byrd (the amazing vocal coach here) I was able to find something that helped me bring out a story - and really that is what music is all about in the end anyways.
Also, I would just like to say thank you all so much for the continued support. The reason why I have even made it this far is because of people like you who are interested in my music, and the stories that I am interested in telling....this means so much to me and I know that regardless of the outcome of this show - I have learned and grown so much not only as a musician but as a person - and I thank each and every one of you for that time that I have had here. Hopefully there will be more days (and weeks) to come.

Hey everyone. First off, thanks for all the support thus far, you have all had a hand in getting me to the Top 10 and for this experience, I am truly grateful. Life here is craaaazy and busy but it has been a ride and I am loving every minute of it. Friendships for life, definitely!
The stress can get to me sometimes but I'm doing my best to just keep my head on straight. Knowing that I have such amazing support from my family, friends and fans makes everything worthwhile. So thank you! Dream Big. Love Hard.

Your performance last week was awesome. I don't usually watch Canadian or American - I was just flipping channels and it was a choice between an episode of Family Guy that I have seen a million times (you know.. the one where Meg kisses Neil..anyway I'm rambling)and Canadian idol.. and you sounded really good!!

In my perspective you are the best canadian idol EVER on the show and nobody's vocals have ever compared yours and nobody has ever shows such heart and soul as you do when you perform. Right from your first performance as a member of the Top 22, you have performed with the ease and expression of a well-honed singer/musician. My favourite performances of yours are when you play the piano and meld together as one. Having said that, I've enjoyed all your perfomances immensely. I would just like to take a second to tell you how incredible you are - "Weak In The Knees"...WOW, is all I can say - that has to be my favorite Canadian Idol performance ever. I loved that song before, but I love the Theo version even more. The judges made the right choice when they chose you to move forward. One more thing before I go...when you're feeling down and struggling with being away from your family and friends, remind yourself that you're doing something that you love, and with each performance all of the heart and feeling you exude...it touches all of the people you love and that love you in return. They're with you - even if they aren't right there.
We're so lucky to have you in this competition.

Hi again! I realized there were things I wanted to say that I missed before!
I love your falsetto, I wish I could hear it more. But I guess the songs you've been picking haven't allowed that, and I'm sure you're picking the right songs. I've enjoyed them!
I also wanted to sympathise with you. I understand what its like to miss family and friends, I was away from everyone I knew for a week, and even tho the people I was with were great, I really missed familiar faces. But under the circumstances, I think this is a price you're willing to pay!

I've seen a lot of big name acts and 2 things seperate the best from the rest as I see it. One is Talent and the other is their ability to connect with the audience. You possess both in spades. You're young and you're this good... It's scary to think of what you may be capable of. In my opinion you have a rare gift and I'm excited to see where you take it.

So great to see you've made it through another week, although this one was definitely a nail-biter. My heart was in my throat when Ben said you were in the Bottom 3. What was Canada thinking? How could they let a talent like you almost slip through their grasp?
It's been years since I've enjoyed a season of Idol like I am this one, and you are the main reason for that. Your voice is simply incredible, and each week when I think I can't be any more amazed by you, you take it up to a new level and just floor me all over again. Heck, you've got me actually looking forward to Mondays now!! :)
You are an undeniable talent, and whether you win or not (of course I hope you DO!), I am so happy that you have given so many of us the chance and the extrme pleasure of hearing you sing. You deserve to go far!

My son sent you a message wishing you well and after your Top 7 performance (dynamite!) I felt compelled to write as well. You are the sure thing, and will go far in whatever you do. Theo you are amazing and should not have been in the bottom three.The reason is people see how good you are and figure everyone else is going to vote for you so they figure their one vote won't matter.Now that all your fans see how important it is to vote,you don't have to worry about the bottom three again.

Three words, Theo: W. O. W. "Extra Extra read all about it, Canada's Own Theo Tam Can SING". I don't watch IDOL, and haven't watched it in the past couple of years... but I thought I would follow this year's. Am I glad I did. Theres only one reason why I don't (usually) watch Idol. Thats simply because we dont get to see the artists that CAN sing Opera, classical, broadway and beyond. I think a performer has to be able to sing THAT way before they can be able to sing another kind of music. Great job, I'll be rooting for you!

I love watching you and all your performances (there is something about the way you perform that is absolutely captivating), though my favourite so far has to be "Collide". It was absolutely beautiful and full of heart, and I listen to it every day.

You're voice is amazing, and I love your falsetto! You can also perform, whether it's behind the piano, or standing on the stage. I thought your whole performance this week was extremely creative, although I wasn't a big fan of the haircut (your style IS part of the performance I think).
Just make sure whatever you do, it's because YOU want to.
Keep on trucking, no matter what obstacles come your way (like, say, some of the people you were closest to on the show being voted off). We know you can do this!

Every Tuesday and Wednesday I get numerous emails from the people I work with all raving about your performance and their views on the eliminations and I realize how extremely blessed I am to have known you.

A guy that takes time to volunteer at an orphanage in India and continues to bring down the house week after week with brilliant performances is a Canadian Idol.

I felt compelled to let you know that when the competition started out you weren't really one of my fav's however, as the show progresses, my husband and I both became big believers in you, You are captivating when you're behind the piano, you're voice is pure with no gimmicks, I know the judges ( for some weird reason ) are huge fans of Earl, however, I think the real competition is between you and Drew. Hopefully Canadians will remember this is a competition of talent and singing, and vote the right way.

Someone once told me to "sing how I feel".
After your very emotional performance of "The Long and Winding Road" and after reviewing all of your other performances I can honestly believe that you do exactly that..."sing how you feel". But more importantly, you make everyone else feel it too.
Someone commented that you looked "sad" on Beatles night but "The Long and Winding Road" is a sad and melancholy song. You were totally believeable! (I had tears)

The last 2 weeks when we have heard more of your classical and opera training you reminded me of someone very famous. Please take this a compliment. I can here certain tones and style similar to Freddy Mercury of Queen. I always loved his range and how he could do a wide variety of styles of music.

How does one describe you,defiantly a musical genius. Zach did mention that you step away from the piano for a change, you sure did with a guitar that took you just four days to learn to play.Piano,guitar or solo/vocal you do it all remarkably. I'm unsure when on piano if you are plugged into it or it into you. Last night we got to see "Theo unplugged" when you jumped up on the piano, that was unreal.

We've been huge fans since the beginning and vote every week. However, since Tom Jones, your performances have gotten more and more over the top. Remember Gavin Rossdale--IT'S ALL ABOUT THE HEART. We miss the old Theo. You're too talented to be a parody. I'm not sure certain judges are encouraging you in the best direction. I hope you think for yourself and get back to performances that mean something.

I hadn't gotten the chance to see your first audition, but as soon as you sat down at that piano and started to sing, I knew you were going to do amazingly well in Canadian Idol. You have caught my attention since day 1 and I personally believe that you are the best choice to be our next Canadian Idol. Although you say in your message that Mitch is a great talent, you have that well-rounded quality in your singing which I think will prevail in the end. I find sometimes the judges' comments are a little harsh but it is good preparation for the music industry which truly lies ahead for you. I wish you all the best on Wednesday night and know that you will be the last man standing. We have never had such great musical talent yet on Canadian Idol as you have and it is exactly this type of talent that keeps the viewers' watching the show. All the best on Wednesday.

One thing I don't understand is how you ever doubted yourslef on making it this far. I have to say I have been a loyal fan of Idol from the first season, and right from the auditions this season you were my favourite. You still are. You are such an amazing singer and I completely agree with the judges when they say you havent made a mistake yet! You captivate me when you sing and I have to stop whatever I'm doing just to watch in awe.
I have a two year old son and I always replay the video when you sang Bubbly. He absolutely loves it! He tries to sing along with you, and when it's over he claps for you and says "Good Boy!"
It's such a pleasure and honour to hear you sing and I wanted to thank you as well for lighting up my little boy's eyes everytime he sees you perform! We'll be waiting for the release of your hit cd! And no worries, you're going to win tonight!

Theo - I have been watching Idol with my two children this season..first time. We were all so impressed with you right from the beginning and we were hoping that you would make it through to the finale. To see you accomplish that and then win -it was great. It was too late for my kids to stay up and watch the results - but they will be so excited in the morning to hear that you won. Congrats. There were so many talented musicians this year...Mookie, Earl, Drew and Mitch...all great....and I am sure you were happy to spend time and learn from them. You have a wonderful presence - keep being who you are are....and you will go far. Best.

Hey Theo. We were so excited watching the show last night. The top ten was truly amazing this year. We have never watched idol every week as we have this season (we are from a small farm community in Norfolk county and are usually outside late in the summer) but were glued to the show every week this summer. We made sure we were in on time to see almost every episode. We only missed the results show on August 19th because our daughter, Angie sang at the CNE in Toronto. Not sure if you remember Angie Schonberger from the top 200. She made it to the cut for the final 24 and actually sang in Drew's group of four. She's my daughter and was equally excited to see you and Mitch make it to the "top 2". She knew going in that you were all forces to be reconed with! I am a huge fan and just know you will go so far. The sky is the limit. We will be at the Norfolk County Fair in October when you, Mictch and Drew perform at the Warchild Canada Fundraiser. Can hardly wait till then.
