hey y'all!
so this is it...i came home from st. pattys day in ireland the end of march...the week i get home i decided what the heck, ill audition. now here i am in the first week of september preparing for the final show in the battle of the east and west! theo tams vs. me...craziness! all i can say is it's been an absolute blast! i've become a better musician all around, i've made some life long friends, and have got to work with some amazing artists from around the world! there's not much more a fella can ask for. i have to admit there was a few ups and downs along the way but for the most part i've stayed true to my musical tastes. I never thought id get the chance to sing the jayhawks, elliott smith, joel plaskett and still be able to get this far in the competition. i guess y'all are enjoying the music! thanks so much!
before i say my farewells id just like to say a big thanks to everyone on the idol staff. i'd never be able to get through all the days without the help of such a great group of people. they have truly made my experience on the show an absolute pleasure!
as for my fellow competitor theo tams, the dude is gunna be tough to beat! he's a gentleman and a phenomenal artist. whatever the results may be on wednesday he has a great future in music ahead of him. so when his first album comes out...buy it!!
and for all you fans out there, thank you from the bottom of my heart. i've had an amazing summer and none of it would have been possible without you. you are the backbone of my success and i hope to repay you all with a show or two in your hometown in the years to come!

good mornin!
top 3...i-n-s-a-n-e! i have to say, i never thought id ever make it this far. guess that's all thanks to you folks! so thank you!
last week was a bit rough...although i was stoked i got to sing some elliott smith...i know some people thought it was a bad song choice but i came into the competition with intent to stay true to my musical
tastes as much as possible so that's why i sang it! they weren't the best performances ever but my voice has been struggling a bit since the hometown tour. its still not 100% but hopefully y'all will help me get to the finale and it'll be in tip top shape then!
this week is bryan adams week and i have to say i'm excited to meet him. he's put out a hell of a lotta hits and it'll be cool to get some tips from a man like himself. we're doing two songs again. a slower one and a more upbeat one. i'm going to try and push myself vocally a bit this week. just hope i can hit the notes!
so thanks again ladies and gents...10 more days till finale! let's see
what we can do!

hellloooooooo
well for those of you who don't know the four of us lads got to go back to our home towns to perform for you amazing fans! what a crazy couple of days. i was fortunate to fly home on thursday afternoon and when i arrived in halifax there was some people at the arrivals terminal to greet me along with a few reporters. after taking a some pics and signing a couple autographs for fans we headed into the city for the night. i happened to have the evening off so i met up with a buncha friends and headed to the legendary halifax pub called the split crow...with intentions to be in bed by midnight....
after the crow i was convinced to head on to the argyle, another great halifax bar with a killer rooftop patio. and guess who i ran into...a few of the boys from simple plan! they were doing a show in halifax and we ended up at the same bar...pretty funny i thought! i think i managed to get to sleep around 4:30 with my alarm set on my blackberry for 5:45 because i had to do breakfast television in the morning. my alarm went off and i looked at the clock on the hotel night stand and it said 6:45....my phone was still on ontario time...so...i had to be at the BT studio in 15 minutes. i threw everything in my suitcase and made it for 7 o'clock on the nose for the interview with 10 interviews to follow from other stations across the province. what a morning!
then it was off to my hometown of port hood!!! about a 3 hour drive from halifax which i did sleep for a couple of them. when i arrived at the outdoor stage there was between 3 and 4 thousand people there. nuts! that's about 3 times the population of port hood! i hit the stage and pretty near went deaf from the screaming fans, threw out a few high fives and played as the sun was setting over port hood island. miss them sunsets. i said my thanks and left but was cheered back on (which i hoped was going to happen) and sang 'i love this town'!! everyone went crazy and sang along to every word and made them sing it especially loud the last couple lines. pretty touching moment i gotta say!
after hundreds of autographs and a half hour of fireworks from port hood beach i ended the night with a few tasty cape breton beverages and a smile on my face!

so i was stoked for last weeks performance and it was great to get some props from the judges. i was excited to get back to doin my thing...me and my guitar that is, and to sing a song that meant a lot to me. i do love my town! on the other hand all the boys were pretty sad to see amberly go home. she's a great gal and i know she'll someday soon have a career in the music biz!
the rest of the week was filled with lotsa good stuff. thursday we got to go to camp ooch. you'll get to see some highlights on the show this week from our trip. great kids, great cause, great times! friday night we hit up the club district for a few cold ones. myself and omar, who you should all remember from top 24, closed down a club called tryst around 630 in the morning. thank god i had saturday off!
anyways, this week is beatles week and the judges picked out our tunes. i do enjoy the tune they picked out for me but it will be a bit of a challenge. so i gotta get practicing! hope you enjoy the show this week!

dudes and dudettes
so this week was a rough one trying to pick a song. after you hear week to week what the judges have to say you get to feel that you have to impress them. but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that it's you the people who vote that have got me this far and I thank you for that. and ultimately that I have to be happy with my song selection whether it be a well known song or not cause I am drawn more to not so well known music. anyways...after a few days of contemplating I've come to a decision and I'm very happy with it and I hope you are too!
on the other side of things...we moved out of the mansion and into some nice condos in downtown TO. It's great to be right in the middle of all the fun. and it's a 5 minute walk to the show rather then a half hour drive. went clubbing Friday night...TO knows how to party! cant wait til I get to see everyone at home and hopefully someday the rest of you cross Canada fans too!

Hey Fans!
Well I don't know about you guys but I had a blast last week. Got back to my roots a little bit. As for the results it's always tough to see good friends go home. I'm just glad Sebastian left on one of his best performances. I know he was having a ball up there. So this Monday's UK Hits and we get to meet Tom Jones. Not necessarily somebody I grew up listening to but I certainly look forward to meeting him. Should be another great show!

Hey Folks!
So Monday I was crazy nervous. Think it was the fact that Jeff Healey just passed away a few months ago and I was scared I was going to do a bad job. It definitely wasn't my best but I hope I didn't sound annoying like Zack said! Sass was happy and that was cool 'cause she was a close friend of his!
Anyway, I'm having a blast here in T.O. Can't say enough about the rest of the Idols. They're wicked peeps and artists. Throw a few votes at the ladies! We need to keep them around! Thanks for all the support!

I usually go there every summer and stay in the little house across from gillies. I am pretty sure we went to Judique on the Floor together... Hey Mitch! I'm from Halifax but i just got back from Port Hood and i got to go to your rally during chestico days. it was pretty sweet! Anyways my mom knows your family really well and she saw them all at the rally. It was pretty cool because i got a big picture takin with all of your family and one of your sisters actually said "this is the closest you'll get to Mitch today!" and i thought it was pretty cool,I mean all of your brothers and sisters and your Mom and Dad got in the picture. I felt the need to bring up the fact that you've basically inspired me to start writing music again. i had gone through a stage where i just wasn't feeling as enthused about writing and performing anymore, but man, when i watch you perform and see how much fun you're having it always just makes me want to pick up my guitar and play! so thanks man :) i played a 30min set at a party last week and i'm so glad i did, definatly nailed it!!

Lastnight's was a spectacular performance! Really-I listened to the Joel Plaskett version and you certainly sang it with a great deal more heart. I was just at a wedding in Mabou on the weekend and I couldn't get over all the signs and all the talk about you! Infact, it makes me want to put a sign up in my yard here in Antigonish! You have been my fave since day one! Keep rocking and doing what you're doing- cause I'd say you're doin something right! " Love This Town" was a great change for you and all the judges gave you awesome comments! :) I was going crazy last night that Ben said "join me at center stage"! I just couldn't watch anymore! But then when he said you were all safe I was like WHAT??!! That was CRAZZZYY!!! Definitely got me scared there! Also i'm sad that Amberly got voted off. She was the only girl left! I think this is the only time in Canadian Idol it was top 5 all males! It's kinda weird... but Anyhoo I am soo glad you made it to TOP 5!!!!! You better step it up and win this thing! :D

Hey Mitch. A big congrats on making it into the top 5!!! You are making all us fellow Capers and ppl across Canada extremely proud. I've always loved your singing, it was always a fun time when I worked at the Coal Miner's and you were playing. The staff was just as entertained as the patrons. Hey Mitch! you are such a great singer/guitar player! Our whole family loves you! We were camping last week in Inverness, and stopped for lunch in Port Hood, and the whole friggin town has a million signs up for you, and actually all the way from Judique to Inverness, there are tons of signs of support. If you get a chance, why don't you sing "hey there Dilihla", I think you would totally be awesome!

You are an accomplished guitar player. I loved your performance of "Love This Town"....there are times when you remind me of the great Paul Simon. You seem very comfortable on stage, just you and your guitar entertaining the world. If you survive this week, in addition to working on your breathing, I hope that you will also try to sing in a less nasal tone. Otherwise, I love what you are doing.

From one Cape Breton MacDonald to another... You are simply amazing at what you do. Representing local artists, staying true to your music and still making it to the Top 2 proves how "dynamically" talented you really are. I am looking forward to seeing the Top 3 tour here in Halifax in a month and a half, and can't wait to hear you representing Nova Scotia and more importantly Cape Breton on the radio soon! Kudos Mitch you made me proud to be a Cape Bretoner!
P.S The house off Spring Garden painted in your honour has been my bberry screen saver for weeks! Along with hundreds of other girls in the city I'm sure! Awesome groups of friends you've got there.

Hey Mitch. We are so happy for you. We have enjoyed your unique style over the summer and knew you would go far! I'm sure that Idol is not the end for you and that we will be seeing more of MITCH MCDONALD in the years to come.
Our daughter Angie was a competitor this year and so we had the pleasure of listening to you and Amberly practicing in the holding area right up until the top 24. We enjoyed you guys then and continued to do so all summer.
We met your Aunt at church in Langton during the summer.
She is a very warm and wonderful lady and gave Angie lots of encouragement. We will be watching in the crowd at the Norfolk County Fair Warchild Canada Fundraiser in October.
