Meet your new Canadian Idol Top 10!

Updated Tue. Jul. 15 2008 5:06 PM ET

Sheri Block, CTV.ca

After being chosen from thousands of hopefuls across the country and beating out 14 other competitors in the Top 24, the 10 best singers remain. With only two girls and eight guys, it's the most uneven gender split in Canadian Idol history. Not only that, it may just be the most unique and talented group of performers yet!

Adam Castelli, 26, Hamilton, Ont. - Carpenter, Singer/Songwriter

Idol.ctv.ca: How does it feel to make it into the Top 10?

Adam: You know what? Nothing surprises me really so if I did, I did, and if I didn't --  that's kind of how I think we all really were prepared though ... you hope for the best but you can't get your hopes too high because it's a reality that some people have to go home. It's definitely emotional but now you've got to push on, like the train keeps moving. We have a show coming up this week that you got to start focusing for.

Idol.ctv.ca: How are you feeling about the comments from the judges?

Adam: I've had positive and (negative) but that's a good thing I've had both and that's the way it goes because this is a new experience. I'm not used to singing and then getting critiqued on it instantly. That's very new for me, which it's new for mostly everyone. Like I said in the past, I never did recitals as a kid; I never did singing competitions, so it's totally foreign to me so if I can remove that out of my head and just really focus on performing for the people as opposed to the potential criticism then I think I'll be just doing fine.

Idol.ctv.ca: What's your game plan going into the Top 10?

Adam: I know exactly what I have to do. My pre-production of my songs is not a problem, the way I arrange them. It's the other side, just dealing with the fact of preparation before a show, energy levels, because I have such emotional performances so I have to really be ready to do it.

Mark Day, 20, Portugal Cove-St. Philips, Nfld. - Student, Respite Care Worker

Idol.ctv.ca: How does it feel to make it into the Top 10?

Mark: I'm pretty pumped. I earned my spot. I'm here, I'm here for a reason and I'm going to go kill it every week and I'm going to win this. I'm super excited.

Idol.ctv.ca: How do you feel about the support you've received from Newfoundland?

Mark: The support from Newfoundland is something I cannot deny. I love Newfoundland. I've lived there for 20 years. Portugal Cove-St. Philips is probably losing their minds right now. I wouldn't be surprised if everyone's out in the streets naked.

Idol.ctv.ca: What's your game plan going into the Top 10?

Mark: I'm going to be me. That's what's been keeping me here so far. I'm going to pick songs that are me, I'm going do songs I enjoy and I'm going to be me all up and over that stage and I'm just going to have a good time every week.

Mitch MacDonald, 22, Port Hood, N.S. - Carpenter, Musician

Idol.ctv.ca: How does it feel to make it into the Top 10?

Mitch: I'm pretty stoked. It's a bit bittersweet you know, seeing six close friends go but I guess you gotta roll with the punches and yeah, I'm here for another week.

Idol.ctv.ca: You come from such a musical family - how are they feeling about you making it this far?

Mitch: Mom and Dad were at the show tonight and they were all smiles. A few tears from Mom I think, too, but I haven't got a chance to talk to the rest of my siblings yet, there's seven of us, so I'll probably make some phone calls. I'm sure they're all pretty proud. And everybody even at home, too, just Cape Breton and my hometown, everybody's pretty pumped I think.

Idol.ctv.ca: What's your game plan going into the Top 10?

Mitch: I think I'm just going to stick to my guns. Jake didn't like my song selection this past week because it's not a well-known song but I don't sing well-known stuff normally at gigs and stuff so I'm just going to keep sticking to my guns because it got me this far, right? I'm just going to keep doing my thing and hopefully Canada enjoys it.

Mookie Morris, 18, Toronto, Ont. - Musician

Idol.ctv.ca: How are you feeling about making it into the Top 10?

Mookie: Relieved and thankful and happy.

Idol.ctv.ca: The judges said this week after your performance it felt like they were watching the Brit Awards and you were beyond the Top 10. What do you make of that?

Mookie: I don't know. I'm young so I'm stubborn and naïve and I don't really know what to think of it so I'm just happy to be here still.

Idol.ctv.ca: What's your game plan going into the Top 10?

Mookie: Just keep doing what I'm doing and try and bring something new every week.

Sebastian Pigott, 25, Toronto, Ont. -  Actor, Writer

Idol.ctv.ca: How does it feel to make it into the Top 10?

Sebastian: It's really exciting. It's an overwhelming experience ... I'm sad my brother's gone because that was the whole reason I came to do it and that's one of the main things that made it so much fun but I'm alright.

Idol.ctv.ca: Farley Flex called you the first sex symbol they've ever had on the show. What does that feel like?

Sebastian: It feels awesome. It's unreal. It's fantastic.

What's your game plan going into the Top 10?

Sebastian: Just trying to figure out how to strategize. It's just like doing a set at a concert. You start off with this song and you figure out where to go with it next and so I feel like it's kind of the same with this. We're kind of doing a show. Everybody kind of gets to do a full set over the course of this, one song at a time and so I'm just trying to figure out how to kick off, whether I need to continue what I was doing or if this is a whole new slate. I'm pretty excited. I've got some cool things planned for next week.

Earl Stevenson, 23, Lloydminster, Alta. - Swamper for a Backhoe Operator

Idol.ctv.ca: How does it feel to make it into the Top 10?

Earl: Good. Real good. You feel great about everything (when you find out you made it), it sucks the kids have to leave; you're just up and down. In ways you're just letting whatever happens happen and just hoping that you stick in.

Idol.ctv.ca: For someone who only really started singing about two years ago to now making it into the Top 10, is that kind of surreal for you?

Earl: Oh definitely. The whole thing's surreal. Anyone who acts like it's not is just kind of lying or something so it's cool or surreal.

Idol.ctv.ca: What is your game plan going into the Top 10?

Earl: Just keep doing what I'm doing and hopefully keep getting better and better at the performing and all that kind of stuff.

Katherine St-Laurent, 17, Otterburn Park, Que. -  Student

Idol.ctv.ca: How does it feel to make it into the Top 10?

Katherine: I'm extremely excited. I was saying that it was such a relief. Everyone's been working hard and making it this far, I think it was a goal for me and I'm very happy that I actually made it.

Idol.ctv.ca: How do you feel about some of the comments the judges made this week about what a mature voice you have and how you have one of the best voices here?

Katherine: I was surprised about the voice thing. Everyone's really really talented in the competition and I was very happy. I was almost in tears.

Idol.ctv.ca: What's your game plan going into the Top 10?

Katherine: I think I'm just going to be myself and choose songs that portray me and do what I would do on any other show and hope that Canada will vote for me. A strategy is hard to do. I'm just going to go week by week and try and do my best.

Theo Tams, 22, Lethbridge, Alta. - Student

Idol.ctv.ca: How does it feel to make it into the Top 10?

Theo: I'm really overwhelmed right now. Like I said from Day 1, I never allowed myself to think this far ahead and now that it's here I don't really have a choice I have to embrace it and it's just unreal. It feels so good just to be selected from this group. Already being in the Top 24 was such an honour so to be in the Top 10 is unreal.

Idol.ctv.ca: What was it like to hear from the judges your version of Howie Day's "Collide" was better than the original and that you've had some of the best performances here?

Theo: I come from southern Alberta so I'm not used to having people who know that much about music be so interested and it's been really satisfying. I'm just so gracious to hear those things and things I've obviously wanted to hear for so long and it's hard when you only hear them from family and friends so I'm just really grateful people are recognizing what I'm capable of.

Idol.ctv.ca: What's your game plan going into the Top 10?

Theo: I think I'm just going to do what I've been doing, just one day at a time because that's the only way I as a person can just do. I don't handle stress well and I know if I allow myself to think too far ahead I'm just going to check out and I need to do whatever I can to stay mentally checked into this competition.

Amberly Thiessen, 19, Seven Persons, Alta. -  Student

Idol.ctv.ca: How does it feel to make it into the Top 10?

Amberly: I can't believe it. It's mind-blowing to actually make it this far. And especially with the talent that went home, some people were ridiculously amazing and I thought they were for sure shoe-ins so to stay and have them go and be amongst this group is just such an honour.

Idol.ctv.ca: Zack Werner said you epitomize the perfect Idol and you could go down as one of the greatest discoveries the show has ever had. What's it like to hear that?

Amberly: I think it was really good to hear those things and it was a good confidence booster and then this week was a good reality check. Every week is as important as the last week, just impress them and luckily I had enough people voting for me that this week, even though it wasn't so great.

Idol.ctv.ca: What's your game plan going into the Top 10?

Amberly: My game plan is to stick to me 100 per cent. I don't want to stray from that at all. I know what kind of style I am, I know what kind of artist I'd be, what kind of CD I'd make, so I'm going to do that 100 per cent. I'm not going to try and change it up really weird and I'm just going to be me so hopefully people like it.

Drew Wright, 28, Collingwood, Ont. - Musician, House Painter

Idol.ctv.ca: How does it feel to make it into the Top 10?

Drew: I feel good. It's bittersweet because you make good friends with a lot of people and some of the people I was closest with in this whole thing have gone home now so I'm proud of my own achievement but at the same time it's tough to say goodbye.

Idol.ctv.ca: How do you feel about the support you've been getting from your home town of Collingwood? (Thousands of people came out to support him on a recent visit home)

Drew: It was the best day of my life. It was overwhelming. It was incredible.

Idol.ctv.ca: What's your game plan going into the Top 10?

Drew: Just stay creative. Just try to make the right song choices and make sure you give it your best when you perform and try and do the song justice.
