Peter "Mookie" Morris was given his unique nickname by his parents the day he was born. "My dad was at a Blue Jays game, and in the 7th inning of the game, my mom went into labour with me. The very second I was born, fan favorite Mookie Wilson stepped up to the plate, and won the game in the 13th inning."

Mookie is the youngest male competitor on the Canadian Idol stage this year. At 18, he just recently graduated high school in Toronto and will be starting at Concordia University in September pending the outcome of the competition. He realizes that Canadian Idol is a once in a lifetime summer job opportunity to kick-start his music career, but by no means will it be easy. "It will take a lot of discipline, smart decisions on song choice, confidence and belief for me to become the next Canadian Idol."

For Mookie, succeeding in the elimination process of the competition has been both gratifying and difficult. "I saw a lot of people go home that I thought were great singers and musicians. I really wasn't sure I'd make it, and then when I did, I wasn't expecting the mix of emotions it brought out in me. It was overwhelming, and really exciting."

There is little in Mookie's life that does not involve music; he enjoys playing drums, piano, going to concerts, and even organizing his own live shows. Mookie also enjoys movies - one of his favourite films is The Graduate. "I love the filming style, dialogue, and especially the music. It represents a great period of film."

Mookie's musical influences include icons like Jimi Hendrix and John Lennon. It's his goal to try and set himself apart on Idol this season by giving solid, entertaining performances that show his passion for music. "I live and breathe music, and I hope I'll be around for a long time."
