Let's face it, if you're a big enough fan, you've already googled or wikied these artists until your wrist cramped up or your boss snuck up behind you. But for the rest of us, random trivia on the Juno nominees for Artist of the Year makes for great break-time chatter.
Céline Dion
1. Céline Dion's middle names are Marie and Claudette.
2. After seeing a Michael Jackson performance at age 18, she told manager (and future husband) René Angélil that she wanted to be an international superstar such as Jackson.
3. Céline likes to eat crunchy potato chips in bed at night.
4. In an interview on "The Tyra Banks Show," Céline mentioned that she is a big fan of fellow nominee Michael Bublé.
5. She carries a Canadian nickel from 1968 - the year of her birth -- in her pocket for luck.
Michael Bublé
1. Michael Bublé was discovered after an associate of Prime Minister Brian Mulroney's heard him at a business function. After passing on his CD, Bublé was invited to play at Mulroney's daughter's wedding, where he met ubër-producer David Foster.
2. His hit single "Everything" was penned for current girlfriend, actress Emily Blunt ("The Devil Wears Prada"). But he co-wrote the smash-hit "Home" for his previous girlfriend/fiancée, stage-actress Debbie Timuss. (While they were still together.) Jann Arden helped write the lyrics for "Lost," after a heartbroken Bublé couldn't find the words.
3. Bublé originally thought that the songs "Me and Mrs. Jones" and "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" were too cheesy to attempt cover versions.
4. Bublé cites his Italian grandfather, who played him jazz records as a child, as his biggest influence. He even took his grandfather along on his first major Italian tour.
5. Bublé's father once went on the Michael Bublé message boards and told fans to show their love by waving white ribbons at his concerts.
Feist
1. Though Leslie Feist is often considered a Calgarian, she was born in Amherst, N.S. Her family moved to Regina, before settling in Calgary to stay. Feist moved to Toronto in 1995. She now splits her time between Paris and Toronto.
2. During the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics, 12-year-old Feist performed as one of 1,000 dancers in the opening ceremonies. This is said to be the inspiration for her "1234" video.
3. Feist once lived with salacious singer Peaches and even performed as part of her live show with a sock puppet under the stage name B*tch Lap Lap.
4. At 18, Feist volunteered with a Calgary puppet troupe. She learned to walk on stilts and performed at folk festivals in Edmonton and Calgary.
5. After her 2007 performance on Saturday Night Live, Feist was approached backstage by "The Nanny" Fran Drescher. To which she reacted by saying, "As if this day could get any weirder."
Avril Lavigne
1. Avril's middle name is Ramona. Though she still performs as Avril Lavigne, she has added husband (Sum 41 frontman) Deryck Whibley's last name to her monogram.
2. Whibley surprised Avril with a Venetian trip including a gondola ride and a marriage proposal on June 27, 2005.
3. Avril was ranked 7th most powerful Canadian in Hollywood. (Canadian Business Magazine, 2007) She also landed 7th place in Forbes Magazine's "Top 20 Earners Under 25." (2007)
4. At age 14, Avril won a contest to perform with Shania Twain on stage in Ottawa.
5. Avril co-wrote Kelly Clarkson's hit "Breakaway," which peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has sold over a million downloads to date.
Pascale Picard
1. After Pascale Picard's debut performance on MusiquePlus, the network was flooded with emails and calls about the band, forcing them to schedule a second appearance.
2. Outside of Quebec, the band was virtually unknown until their 2008 Juno nomination.
3. This past January, Pascale Picard played the Midem (Marché international de l'édition musicale) in Cannes, France and made a big impression. Their album, "Me, Myself & Us," will be released in France in June.
4. Their first single, "Gate 22," stayed on the Quebec anglophone charts for 12 weeks.
5. Pascale Picard Band members are big fans of indie darlings The Weakerthans.

The chance of the destruction of our planet is very very small with this collider, but who are these people to decide what risks are acceptable for all of mankind? It puts me at unease and adds to my anxiety. CERN acknowledges that there are miniscule risks -- they admit to it so please spare the convoluted retorts.
