Mulroney disappointed in voters after Neufeld cut

Eye on Idol
Canada's decision to eliminate Greg Neufeld wasn't just shocking to Canadian Idol's extremely surprised judges. After announcing the Abbotsford alt-rocker had been received the fewest votes from the previous night's Queen episode, host Ben Mulroney took an unusual departure from his diplomatic facade to express his dismay with the show's voters.
"I don't know what to say," Mulroney began, then deciding to alter his approach. "No, that's not true. I do know what to say. Canada got this wrong. I don't care if I'm not supposed to say that. Canada got this wrong. Anyone watching our show should know. If they don't know, I'm telling them. You are a bona fide star.
"I hope to God that you benefiited as much from being on this show as we benefitted from having you. If that turns out to be the case, your future is absolutely limitless."
Earlier in the show, the judges expressed their extreme displeasure with the bottom three selection, which consisted of Greg Neufeld, his fellow Lower Mainland B.C. resident Carly Rae Jepsen and Hamilton's Brian Melo.
"With respect to the Canadian public, that's absolutely ridiculous," said Farley Flex, shaking his head as he looked directly into the camera.
"Those three, in my mind, were the top three from last night," added Jake Gold. "I think any of them will have a successful career."
After Melo and Jepsen were sent back to the couches with the rest of the safe competitors, the camera panned to Sass Jordan. Her usually animated face was pale and unmoving, her eyes fixed on the stage in look of dissapointed shock.
Neufeld used his last moment in the Idol spotlight to thank everyone who had supported him during his run on the show.
"Thank you so much guys," he said, the audience rising to their feet to see him off. "It's been the summer of my life. There's some really great singers here... When I move on in my career I hope you guys will be there with me."
Before revealing Neufeld's elimination, viewers were treated to a segment featuring the competitors' visit to the Toronto stage production "We Will Rock You," a musical based on Queen's body of work.
After cheering for the week's mentors (Queen's Brian May and Roger Taylor) as they performed with the cast of the show, the Top 7 joined the whole group on stage for a rendition of "The Show Must Go On."
"They're wonderful artists, all seven of them," May told the audience at the Canon Theatre before the song began. "got the feeling that perhaps things (on Canadin Idol) are evolving more toward the singer/songwriters and the really talented people who really should be on TV. God bless 'em."
The taped musical segment didn't mean Tuesday night's live audience was forgotten. The crowd was treated to the Top 7's version of "You're My Best Friend," then performed the title track from "We Will Rock You" alongside the show's male lead, Yvan Pedneault.
Find out what songs the Top 6 choose for Pop/Rock week on Monday, Aug. 13 at 9 p.m. on CTV.

Who would the judges and Mulroney have voted off?
How many times have the audience disagreed with the judges over their assessment of performances? Quite a few!!!!
Its too bad when these guys can't push their favorites thru to the next level but that's why the decision is left to the public not these so called experts.

Yup, Canada did get it wrong. I voted many times for Greg because I think he was the best in the top 10 this year. Wow, what a shock.

I just have to say that there must have been a major screw up with the telephone lines last night to have put those singers in the bottom three. There is no way that is possible. I am beginning to doubt the "Real" factor of the show if this is true.

I must say with this weeks vote I've lost faith in the show. It's obvious that you aren't looking for the best singer.I'm as shocked as the Judges. It was good to see Ben show his dismay.

Greg was robbed. He was this year's winner. I don't know how I'm goning to tell my 5 year old who was thrilled to meet Greg. All I hope is that Greg takes his band "Dimarco" to the top like Jacob Hoggard did with Hedley. Best of luck with your awesome future Greg. Keep on singing.
Thanks Glenn

If people don't stop voting for the contestants just because they are cute or because they are from their hometown, the show is going to be losing its ratings. After all it is a talent show to find the BEST singer, not the cutest.....For all the teeny boppers out there, grow up.

I totally agree with Ben Mulroney's disappointment with Greg Neufeld's elimination. I'm happy he (Ben) felt strongly enough to freely express himself. Unfortunately for Greg, Canada got it WRONG!

I was in absolute shock when I heard that Greg was eliminated on Canadian Idol. Greg is one of the best singers in the competition and should of been in the finals. It is ashame that Canada did not see how great a singer Greg is. Greg showed last night on Idol that he is a class act and has a great career ahead of him.

I totally agree with all the judges. I think it's absolutely unbelievable that Greg Neufeld was voted out. I can't wait to buy all his albums he will make. American Idol, Daughtry vs. Hicks all over again.

The voting public got it right. Greg wasn't the best Monday night. Ben as host should have remained impartial. What of the other contestants? Are they not deserving of becoming Canadian Idol or was it just to be Greg's? Best of luck to Greg ... vote on Canada! There's a competition to consider.

The august long weekend in Canada! Half the people watching, did so on tape. Which means the voting was closed.I think the producers made a big mistake! They should find a way to get Greg back on the show.

Aren't we supposed to be voting for the best SINGER? C'mon Canada, you need to get this right. Obviously, the voting system in place doesn't work. Perhaps the viewers should vote to determine the bottom three and then have the fair, TRAINED panel of judges decide who gets eliminated. When we are down to the last two skilled contestants, the viewers could have the last say.

As an old fart, I am usually dismissive of the Idol fad - and of television in general. However, the talent captured in this summer's Idol run has pried open my closed mind and forced me to appreciate that high quality youthful entertainment is still possible. With due respect to the American franchise, Ben is the new Ed and Canadian talent rules the world.

I'm glad that Ben expressed himself last night. He is right and the show has lost it's best singer. I Definately thought he'd be in the final 2. Can't wait for a label to pick him up soon so we can hear more of him.
