TORONTO Payless ShoeSource is recalling about 3,000 toddler-size clog shoes sold in Canada because of a risk that the plastic rivets that attach the back strap can detach, posing a choking hazard to young children.
Payless has also issued a recall in the United States in co-operation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The Canadian recall affects toddler clog shoes in sizes 5 to 10 sold between January 2006 and June 2007.
The shoes are: a Dora the Explorer character clog; a SpongeBob SquarePants character clog; a Hello Kitty character clog; a Coasters Lighted Car Compel clog; and a Cambridge Mary-Jane shoe.
Consumers should take the recalled shoes to a Payless store for a refund or exchange, the company says.
For more information, contact Payless toll-free at 800-654-0697.
