An 18-month-old boy is dead after he fell out of a 28th floor apartment building window in east Toronto over the noon hour.
The incident occurred at 7 Crescent Pl., near Victoria Park Avenue and Danforth Avenue.
The toddler, who landed on a grassy area, was taken to Toronto East General Hospital with vital signs absent. He was pronounced dead at hospital.
Police believe the boy fell through the living room window. The circumstances are not yet clear.
Neighbours say the boy is an only child.
Tenants at the building were stunned by the tragedy.
"(The mother) just fell down and she was screaming," said Jumana Faizy, fighting off tears. "I could not control myself."
It's not clear where the parents were during the incident. They have spoken to police.
Some neighbours said they heard a commotion from the unit where the boy fell.
"It was horrifying, there was some banging, the door slammed a few times," said Sandra Bencic.
"The mother kept screaming. There was an altercation, I think, with the young deceased child."

I applaud the budget, even though Health Care and education may stay unscathed. Sadly this cannot last and I worry to later this year where cuts will become enviable. If anything, this provides the Wildrose Alliance plenty of ammo when an election is called.
