KABUL A NATO soldier was killed and three wounded during an operation in eastern Afghanistan, the U.S. military said Friday.
Four wounded soldiers were evacuated to a medical facility after the operation Thursday evening, where one died of his wounds, the military said. The three others are in stable condition.
The military did not specify the soldiers' nationalities or where the operation occurred. The majority of soldiers operating in eastern Afghanistan are American.
The death brings to at least 22 the number of U.S. or NATO soldiers who have died in Afghanistan this year, including at least 11 U.S. soldiers and five British.
Fighting also erupted between Taliban militants and Afghan police and soldiers in the eastern province of Paktika late Thursday, and two police were killed, said Paktika Gov. Mohammed Akram Akhpelwak. A Taliban commander was also captured, he said.
In the country's south, meanwhile, militants attacked a government compound in Zabul province on Thursday, in a clash that killed three suspected Taliban insurgents and caused minor damage to a building, said Abdul Ghafar Safai, the provincial police chief.

The chance of the destruction of our planet is very very small with this collider, but who are these people to decide what risks are acceptable for all of mankind? It puts me at unease and adds to my anxiety. CERN acknowledges that there are miniscule risks -- they admit to it so please spare the convoluted retorts.
