Canadian figure skater Lloyd Eisler will not appeal his one-year suspension from coaching, according to a statement he released Thursday.
Skate Canada suspended the two-time Olympic bronze medalist on October 3, after he allegedly sent inappropriate emails to a 15-year-old female skater he was coaching. He had until midnight Wednesday to appeal the decision.
A source familiar with Skate Canada's investigation told the Toronto Star that the emails to the teen girl were sexually suggestive. Skate Canada has refused to give an official reason for Eisler's suspension.
The decision was handed down by the organization's harassment committee. The emails were allegedly sent to the teen skater in the spring and summer of 2005.
In Eisler's statement he referred to the incident as, "a situation I regret enormously and take very seriously." He declines to address any more questions on the suspension or alleged emails, citing concerns for his family's privacy.
The Toronto Star reported that it asked Eisler about his suspension last week, and whether the ban was related to inappropriate emails.
"No idea. That's very strange," Eisler replied. He told reporters he intended to follow up on the matter with Skate Canada.
In his statement Thursday, Eisler said he had, "taken responsibility, and addressed any misunderstanding of my actions."
"While I do not agree with the measures taken by Skate Canada, I have decided not to appeal their ruling. Instead, I have formally asked them to reconsider the severity of the penalty imposed," he said.
The one-year ban does not stop Eisler, 43, from continuing to coach skaters in the U.S. He is currently working as a coach in California.
In February 2006, Eisler endured criticism for beginning a relationship with Kristy Swanson, his skating partner on the reality TV show "Skating with Celebrities," when his wife Marcia O'Brien was pregnant with their second child.
Eisler and O'Brien have since separated.
The celebrity tabloid People Magazine has reported Eisler and Swanson are expecting a child together, due in February 2007.

I applaud the budget, even though Health Care and education may stay unscathed. Sadly this cannot last and I worry to later this year where cuts will become enviable. If anything, this provides the Wildrose Alliance plenty of ammo when an election is called.
