Rob JamesUpdated Wed. Aug. 9 2006 10:03 AM ET Top 7 - Eliminated August 8 Age: 28 "This competition tests you on all levels...physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. It brings out any weakness you may have and shines the spotlight on it for all to see." Rob James comes to Canadian Idol from a city that has produced some of the biggest names in Canadian music such as The Guess Who, Chantal Kreviazuk and Neil Young. "Winnipeg has a rich and diverse musical and cultural heritage that fosters the development of young talent," says Rob. Rob is one of the many competitors who have benefited from the increase in the age limit to 28 for Canadian Idol. With his previous contractual obligations now concluded from his earlier recording career, Rob was free to try out for the show. Rob says his biggest accomplishment to date was having a song he composed chosen to be on Canadian Idol winner Ryan Malcolm's debut CD. At one point considering a career as a dental hygienist, Rob is also extremely proud of going back to university after spending many years thinking that higher education was out of reach for him. Now in his second year at the University of Manitoba, Rob says "it just goes to show you that anything is possible." Rob would love the opportunity to sit with reggae legend Bob Marley and hear his philosophies on life and politics. He also finds inspiration from his father. "He's a very solid, honourable man," he says, "He has always had faith in me, even when I let him down." Eating pizza, The Shawshank Redemption and The Da Vinci Code are some of Rob's favourite things. Being a sports enthusiast, Rob enjoys playing basketball, soccer, tennis and golf. Rob would love to follow the same career path as fellow Winnipegger Randy Bachman. "With a career that has spanned almost four decades, he continues to write great music and be a role model for aspiring musicians everywhere, myself included," he says. The song title that best describes Rob? "Alive" by Pearl Jam, he says. Canadian Idol Song List:
