TORONTO — Bioscrypt Inc.'s biometric fingerprint readers will be used in 89 airports across Canada, the identification technology company said Tuesday.

The V-Smart readers will be part of the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority's restricted area identification card project to confirm security clearance among airport workers, Bioscrypt (TSX:BYT) said.

A-FSC, an Ottawa-based security company, won the contract to be the exclusive supplier to the security authority for the project and will be providing Bioscrypt readers as required, the firm said.

Twenty-nine of Canada's biggest airports are expected to be equipped by the end of December.

"We are pleased to have earned the opportunity to be part of the RAIC project as we believe it serves as an example to the rest of the world on how to use biometrics to enhance airport security," Bioscrypt president and CEO Robert Williams said in a release.
