Justin Trudeau and Sophie Gregoire roared away from a Montreal church as husband and wife, with Justin driving his father's old Mercedes roadster.
The eldest son of former prime minister Pierre Trudeau tied the knot at Montreal's Sainte-Madeleine d'Outremont church on Saturday.
Sacha Trudeau, Justin's brother, served as best man.
"I'm so happy for my brother," Sacha said after the ceremony. "I'm so happy he's found love and is going to make a great life ahead of him."
Sophie said this: "I'm the luckiest girl alive."
Justin's mother Margaret Trudeau Kemper was in attendance, calling it "the happiest day." Pierre died in 2000, and Justin's other brother Michel died in a 1998 avalanche.
Trudeau and the 29-year-old Gregoire invited about 160 family and close friends. A reception was to be held at a swank hotel in Old Montreal.
"The sentiment is this is Canadian royalty," CTV's Jed Kahane told Newsnet.
One spectator even compared the Trudeaus to the glamourous Kennedy clan of the United States.
The street in front of the church was lined with hundreds of well-wishers and the curious.
One part of the Trudeau automotive legacy formed part of the ceremony: Pierre's restored 1960 Mercedes Benz 300 SL roadster -- one he used to drive to Parliament Hill.
The car had been brought from Victoria to Montreal for the occasion and was adorned with flowers and a single red rose -- a Pierre trademark.
The wedding's details had been kept under wraps, but planners said it was to be "chic and sophisticated."
Even Sophie didn't know their honeymoon destination, although she said Justin told her she wouldn't need a parka.
The Globe and Mail reported last week that when wedding invitations were sent in March, guests were asked not to reveal the date, time or place.
But Trudeau agreed to allow photographers from French-language gossip magazine 7 Jours as well as Maclean's to cover his wedding.
"The idea of a kind of family album in a national weekly news magazine seemed like the most appropriate way to reach the widest number of people," Michael Levine, a Toronto entertainment lawyer representing Trudeau and Gregoire, told The Globe.
The couple met at a ball during Montreal's Grand Prix in 2003, for which they both performed hosting duties.
Trudeau became engaged to Gregoire, a former model and Quebec TV host, last October. Gregoire now works for Holt Renfrew as a personal shopper.
Trudeau, a former teacher, was born on Christmas Day 1971 to Pierre and Margaret. He caught the nation's attention five years ago after giving an emotional eulogy at his father's funeral.
In recent years, Trudeau has embarked on a career as a public speaker and has hinted he may enter the political arena at some future point.

I applaud the budget, even though Health Care and education may stay unscathed. Sadly this cannot last and I worry to later this year where cuts will become enviable. If anything, this provides the Wildrose Alliance plenty of ammo when an election is called.
