Vancouver native Haig Sutherland stars in CTV's "Robson Arms" and talks to CTV.ca about what it's like getting back into the series. The third season of "Robson Arms" returns with a sneak peek episode on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 9:30 pm ET following "American Idol." Sutherland plays the newly engaged Fred Fochs, who is settling into domestic life with Alicia, played by Jane McGregor. The actor was nominated for a Gemini Award in 2007 for "Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Supporting Role in a Dramatic Series" in the episode "Mr. Lonely," and won a Leo for "Best Supporting Performance by a Male in a Dramatic Series" for "Robson Arms" in 2005. How have you enjoyed your return to Robson Arms? I've loved it. It's like slipping on an old pair of slippers. The crew is great, the cast is fantastic. I get on real well with the writers and directors and I couldn't ask for a better experience. What's it like returning to the character of Fred Fochs? It's lots of fun. When you've worked on a character for three years, you get to know it a little bit more and you learn a little bit more. It's familiar, and they always write such great stories for Fred. I feel really lucky. What kinds of things are in store for Fred this season? In season three we discover that Fred and Alicia have been married, there was a flash of a proposal in season two, so we come back to see that they are living together in Fred's old apartment. Bark also returns, Fred's office co-worker from season one. He's played by Will Sasso, and he's a hurricane of comedy. He never leaves a room the same way he enters it and he's a real treat to work with. How much of yourself do you see in Fred? I don't know, Fred is pretty nerdy. He's got very little self confidence and fairly timid. I'm not sure if I fit exactly into that category. Of course, I suppose there are some similarities. I think of Fred as a sad clown to tell you the truth. But I have fun playing him. Is there anyone on the show that you'd like to work with that you haven't yet? I'd love to work with them all. I have a lot of respect for all the actors, they've done a great job of casting and assembling some of Canada's top talent when it comes to the world of television. It's been a privilege to share scenes with guys like John Cassini and Joe Flaherty and Dave Foley and Dave Miller and that kind of thing. I recently had a snippet of a scene with Fred Ewanuik and that was a lot of fun. We've known each other for a long, long time, and were at Douglas College together in 1990 I guess. We've never had a chance to work substantially together. Stay tuned for more "Robson Arms" on CTV. |
