The 2006 Canadian Idol Audition Tour begins Feb. 18. The 11-week, 11-city 2006 Canadian Idol Audition Tour will travel from sea to sea to sea, visiting eight provinces and one territory in the search for Canada's next singing sensation. In addition to Yellowknife, the tour will also visit Kitchener-Waterloo for the first time. In all, six of the cities are locations not visited on last year's tour. The 2006 audition cities are: The show has been revamped to make it as easy as possible for competitors to audition. Unlike previous years, the audition tour has been scheduled to visit cities almost exclusively on weekends. The auditions will be held in easily-accessible locations frequented by youth, including malls. And, again for the first time, competitors can now arrive any time between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on every day of auditions, as opposed to previous years when hopefuls needed to arrive by 8 a.m. on the first day. Producers note that as the audition process has evolved since the first audition tour in 2003, so too have the competitors that show up. "Last year we definitely saw more established, serious singers try out who viewed Canadian Idol as an opportunity to get exposure and kick-start their careers," said Brunton. "2005 Top 10 finalists like Suzi Rawn and Aaron Walpole - and 2004 finalist Jacob Hoggard - are perfect examples of kids who fronted their own bands but saw Idol as a chance to get thrust onto the national stage." Auditions for Canadian Idol are now open to all Canadians between the ages of 16 and 28 (inclusive) as of February 1, 2006.
