Genevieve Nadeau
Age: 24 "I just want to make the people in front of me dance, scream, smile. Because when they go crazy, I go nuts!" Geneviève Nadeau began voice lessons at 14 and by 17 was singing in front of 30,000 people at Montréal's Old Port on Canada Day. The part-time financial consultant and university student currently sings in a cover band that performs disco, R & B, blues and rock and last year played Marguerite in the musical The Scarlet Pimpernel . Geneviève says she auditioned for Canadian Idol because she is a stage addict. "Even if I'm not the Canadian Idol, I will always sing, and hopefully work in the industry." Geneviève is a former competitive mountain biker who loves sports and the outdoors. She likes to kayak, canoe, hike and snowboard. She is a frequent traveler who has visited Europe, Mexico and Asia. "I love adventure and meeting people from other cultures," she says. "It's very addictive!" Geneviève is a huge Scorcese and Tarantino fan, used to be a "total tomboy," and has a pet snake. She likes to cheer for the Montréal Canadians. "I'm their biggest fan….when they win!" Geneviève says if she could meet one person it would be Leonardo da Vinci. "How can a person be so complete? Such a leader in painting, sculpture, poetry mathematics, physics and biology…he was unreal!" The song title that best describes her? Born to be Wild, she says.

What has been the biggest accomplishment of your life? The musical comedy "Scarlet Pimpernel" I was Marguerite (first feminine role), I loved it so much. Also, the silver medal I got in Whistler (Mountain biking race) I never pushed myself that much physically and mentally. What are you the most proud of? The relationships I developed with the people I love. Which item could you not live without? My car, a freedom I just can live without. What's been the best day of your life? I have more than one! But in the last year I would say, in Phuket (Thailand) when I was scuba diving I saw a 5 meters manta ray coming right at me…that moment is constantly replaying in my head since. If you could meet one person, living or dead, who would it be and why? Leonardo Da Vinci: How can a person be so complete! Such a leader in painting, sculpture, poetry, mathematic, physic, biology… It's inhuman, he's unreal! It's all about the boots! Seriously, I got no idea, I just feel very lucky, and I am working hard one the next step. What will it take for you to become the Canadian Idol? Originality, sensitivity and emotions, all this in a rhythm song. I need the people now… It's the hardest part. What has been the most challenging part of the competition so far? Not being able to sleep or to eat for a week, so much adrenaline rush, I lost 7 pounds in 7 days. Whose career path would you like to follow and why? Madonna, amazing Singer, actress, business women, and now a mom…wow What part of the Canadian Idol experience has surprised you the most? Toronto, the organization, the way we were treated … beautiful!! What did you learn about yourself during the Top 100? That this is my world, my king of atmosphere, my kind of people. Even if it's not with Canadian Idol, I will always sing, and hopefully always work in that Industry. If it's not as a performer it will be behind the scene somewhere for sure! What was your reaction when you made the Top 32? When they told me the room I was in, I was expecting it, because the people I was with were to excellent! But, judges have made so much weird decisions that I was still very stress, and I really surprised myself by the hysterical scream I've made when Zack told us we were in. My father, I would be disoriented without him. Who has helped to make you the singer you are today? My father, and my signing teacher, she was a total angel with me...cuz I wasn't always easy… What song touches you the most? Why does it affect you so much? A French Christmas song that I never was able to sing. It talking about children alone one Christmas eve, It affected me so much, after four sentences, I was crying, not able to continue… I guess it's because Christmas is very important and emotional for me and I love children so much that I just couldn't take it. What do you do to keep your nerves in check during the competition? I tell myself that "give everything you've got". I do and say stupid things to relax. I move physically, jump, walk, focus… How has this competition changed you? I just have to do this now, even if it's just in front of three drunk guys sitting in the back of a bar, I don't care…. cause that "Showbiz… Kid!" Which words or phrases do you most overuse? "Malade" means sick - "Intense" means intense…. Everything is "malade" or "intense" |
