Giselle Correia
Age: 26 "Traveling is an amazing education, but I'm always so happy to be coming home. This country is by far the best!" Giselle Correia says she first began singing around the age of six. "I've always loved singing," she says. "It's always felt really good to me." Although she has little experience performing in public, she is psyched for Canadian Idol. "This is an amazing opportunity and it has given me a greater confidence within myself." Giselle's Canadian idol is Mississauga mayor Hazel McCallion. "She was first elected mayor in 1978 and she's still going strong – she must be doing something right!" Other idols include Leonard Cohen, Esthero and astronauts Dr. Roberta Bondar and Captain Julie Payette. Indeed, Giselle dreams of traveling into outer space. "Something about going up into space really appeals to me," she says. "It's beautiful up there." Earthbound, she has traveled around the world where she "had the time of my life and met some amazing people." Giselle's musical inspiration includes artists like The Doors, Coldplay and Jefferson Airplane, but says her style is "a smorgasbord of what I love, mixed with my own self and my own voice." A make-up artist who likes to dance, Giselle loves "all kinds" of food, CSI and the Toronto Maple Leafs. She is a frequent camper, reads "anything by Stephen King" and loves to do special effects make-up, "especially during Halloween." The song title that best describes her? Across The Universe or Brown Eyed Girl, she says.

What has been the biggest accomplishment of your life? Being a good person and applying it to my everyday life. Loving and always being myself. Making it to the top 32 has been an amazing accomplishment!! What are you the most proud of? My fearlessness, my strength, my mother. Which item could you not live without? My cd player!! What's been the best day of your life? Today's a good day! Camping with my boyfriend, backpacking across Egypt, making it to the top 32!! If you could meet one person, living or dead, who would it be and why? I would like to meet me in a past life. It would be pretty interesting and weird! What do you think has gotten you this far in the competition? My individuality, my voice, my presence. What will it take for you to become the Canadian Idol? A great performance and votes. What has been the most challenging part of the competition so far? Dealing with the nerves. Whose career path would you like to follow and why? I'd like to follow my own successful career path wherever that may take me. What part of the Canadian Idol experience has surprised you the most? The hard work, it's like a singing boot camp! All the amazing people I have met, contestants and the people behind the scenes, everyone was so great. What did you learn about yourself during the Top 100? This is an amazing opportunity and it has given me a greater confidence within myself. What was your reaction when you made the Top 32? Wow!! Who has been the greatest inspiration of your life? My mother. Who has helped to make you the singer you are today? I'd like to take a little credit for that. Anyone who is passionate about life and art, beauty, darkness, creation People who want to change things, people who aren't afraid to be themselves. I am inspired by all of this. What song touches you the most? Why does it affect you so much? Any song that I feel was written or sung with feeling like "In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel. What do you do to keep your nerves in check during the competition? A lot of deep breathing. How has this competition changed you? It has given me more confidence.
