Stéphane Aubin
Age: 21 "The stage is my second home, singing is my life, and given the chance to do it on a grand scale, you can bet I'm gonna give 1001%!" Could Stéphane Aubin follow in the same footsteps as Shania Twain? The 21-year-old singer has a wealth of experience that includes performing for two years at the same Muskoka resort where Twain was discovered. Indeed, Stephane will appear as an extra in an upcoming Twain TV movie. Stéphane was born into a musical family of well-known singers. He began singing at the age of five, performing in public at 13 and started working professionally at 15 when he began singing on Parliament Hill with the RCMP Musical Ride. At 16, he performed for Pope John Paul II and an audience of 15,000 at the Vatican. Stéphane's second passion is gardening. Currently a manager/server in Edmonton, Stéphane would someday like to study horticulture and botany and says he "lives for the outdoors." Stéphane is a huge fan of Oprah, wishes he had heard Edith Piaf perform live, and loves Christmas. His biggest fan is his "96-year-old beauty of a Memere" and he is best friends with his mother. The song title that best describes him? Love Will Keep Us Together. "I try my best to do everything using love as motivation," he says.
Stéphane's fun facts: Which musical act would you most like to see in concert? I would so love to sit and watch the great Edith Piaf sing her greatest hits.
What has been the biggest accomplishment of your life? I could describe many things that were quite amazing in my life, but one simple event stands out for me. One day I realized I could stop trying to be perfect because I would never be perfect in my mind. After that, simply doing my best began to exceed my expectations! What are you the most proud of? I am so proud to be part of an amazing, supportive and progressive family. They give me so much strength and I sincerely hope I do the same for them. Which item could you not live without? I could never be without my favorite book "The Four Agreements". I've both read it and given it as a gift countless times because it does so much for me. What's been the best day of your life? To be honest, today, right now in this moment is the best time of my life. To give some other day credit as being the best might make me bypass the good things happening today. If you could meet one person, living or dead, who would it be and why? One thing for sure has brought me to this point in the competition, being honest with myself and who I am. I don't focus on what I can't do but rather what I can do. What will it take for you to become the Canadian Idol? Whose career path would you like to follow and why? There are so many individuals who use their career to its full potential. Someone like Jann Arden not only amazes us with her talent but also does what she can to help others. I would love to give my all, to both music as well as those who will listen. What part of the Canadian Idol experience has surprised you the most? There is no doubt that the crew of Canadian Idol blew away my expectations. While having a crazy and demanding job they were always wearing a smile and treated us like What did you learn about yourself during the Top 100? Being in the top 100 reaffirmed for me that giving support and spreading positive thoughts among the others can only bring good things. Doing such would calm my nerves and allow me to create the internal support required to perform the best I possibly could. What was your reaction when you made the Top 32? To tell you the truth, when discovered I had made the top 32 I was gosh dang proud! Those previous four days were definitely rewarding, but getting to the top was like the sweet white icing on the cake (chocolate cake that is!) Who has been the greatest inspiration of your life? I am inspired by anyone who is GENUINELY happy in life and makes the best of every day. It sounds simple but so many of us focus only on what could, should or would Who has helped to make you the singer you are today? My dear friend and vocal coach Ruth Blais inspired me to sing like the singer I am, not the singer I believe I should be. We all have something that is uniquely ours, What song touches you the most? Why does it affect you so much? A song I hold directly in my heart is "Smile" by Nat King Cole. Besides having a perfect message, this was the last song I sang to my grandmother before she fell into a coma and passed away. She always loved to hear that song. What song title best describes you? "Love Will Keep us Together" is the song that best describes me. It may sound somewhat cheesy, but I try my best to do everything using love as motivation. If you I focus only on the present, no thought of what may come after. Why think of choking or succeeding in the future when I can put all that energy towards enjoying this ONE How has this competition changed you? This competition has definitely set a new standard for my focus. It is amazing what an individual can accomplish with a clear, focused mind. Now there is nothing I can't do in four hours! What is your motto? My life is guided by a simple phrase I think of every day… "Success is not the destination, it is the journey" Which words or phrases do you most overuse? Friends will often poke fun at me because I am always using over indulgent words like Amazing, Fantastic, and Incredible just to name a few. I'll often describe a piece of good steak as "Beautiful" or "Perfect". Hey, at least I'm not dull! |
