Kalan Porter Debuts New CD 219 Days on Vicki Gabereau, Nov. 23 on CTV
Canadian Idol winner Kalan Porter will mark the release of his debut CD 219 Days next Tuesday, Nov. 23 with the national television premiere of a brand new song on CTV's Vicki Gabereau. Porter will actually perform two songs from the CD on the half-hour special - devoted entirely to the Canadian Idol winner - airing at 2 p.m. ET (check local listings) on CTV. In addition to an extensive interview by host Vicki Gabereau, Porter will also answer questions from the exclusive studio audience. Next Tuesday's release date of Porter's CD is 219 days since he first auditioned for Canadian Idol last April in Edmonton - thus the title of the CD. Described by ViK.recordings / BMG Canada as "a striking collection of rock-fringed tunes, beautifully orchestrated ballads and a unique pop sensibility," 219 Days features the eight-times-platinum single Awake in a Dream plus 12 new tracks in addition to a bonus track featuring a duet with Canadian Idol runner-up Theresa Sokyrka. Porter is a co-writer on four of the new songs and plays violin on two. Porter worked with legendary rock hero Randy Bachman as well as hot studio production duo Perry Alexander (Keshia Chante, Shawn Desman) and creative forces Rob Wells (Amanda Stott, Karen David) and Marc Jordan (Rod Stewart) in recording 219 Days. Porter is in the middle of a national promotional tour in support of 219 Days that will take him from one end of the country to the other, including stops in Halifax, Moncton, St. John, Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon, Red Deer, Medicine Hat, Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver, where he will tape Vicki Gabereau early next week. Since he won the Canadian Idol crown on Sept. 16 in front of an audience of 4.2 million viewers on CTV, Porter, 19, has gone on to release his first single, Awake In a Dream.* The song became the highest-selling single debut of all time for a Canadian artist after its release on Oct. 5. It has remained at the top of Canada's Singles Charts for six straight weeks - outselling the likes of Shania Twain and Usher - and is in the Top 10 Charts on radio stations across the country. In addition to Awake in a Dream and 219 Days, Porter is featured in the compilation CD Platinum Christmas II. The holiday CD, now in stores, features Christmas music by artists including Elton John, Christina Aguilera, Josh Groban and Michael Bublé as well as fellow Idols Clay Aiken, Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard and Ryan Malcolm. Porter performs the ballad "Mary Did You Know?" For more information about Kalan Porter, please visit www.kalanporter.com.
