Theresa and Jacob appear on Vicki Gabereau
Canadian Idol fan favourites, Theresa Sokyrka and Jacob Hoggard dropped by the Vancouver set of Vicki Gabereau to the delight of a packed studio audience where they chatted about their careers, fielded questions about their futures and gave the inside scoop on some of the shenanigans that went on at the Idol mansion. Hoggard, whose ever-changing theatrical performances rocketed him all the way to a third-place finish, told Gabereau, "It was almost like a competition of taste when it came down to it," and jokingly added, "because I'm totally better than the other two," referring to Sokyrka and Idol winner Kalan Porter. Laughing along, runner-up Sokyrka spoke about dealing with the instant fame -- the by-product of competing on one of Canada's most popular TV shows. "I can't go anywhere in Saskatoon," the 23-year-old singer said. "Toronto, Vancouver, no one really recognizes me. But, Saskatoon, everybody recognizes me." But Sokyrka said she's never viewed her newfound popularity as negative, as she answered a question from a fan. "There's a lot of love I've been seeing lately," she explained. "It just makes me want to work even harder to make these people happy because there are so many people who are so excited about this…I think it's just a really positive experience." Hoggard, it seems, is also enjoying the fruits of his labour and is hard at work trying to harness more exposure for his band, Hedley. The Abbotsford, B.C. native has taken on the role of band manager and is currently negotiating a couple of deals with record companies, which the 20-year-old front-man prefers to keep under wraps. With a string of shows, Hedley is quickly developing a large fan base, as evident in the Hedley t-shirts worn by some audience members who attended a recent concert in Abbotsford. Asked how he feels when he hears fans singing along to his music, Hoggard piped up, "That my friend, is one of the better experiences I've had to deal with. Just the fact that people can acknowledge what you do and, all of a sudden, you're there performing with them and they're with you singing along is quite the amazing feeling." Telling on each other like brother and sister, Hoggard and Sokyrka also spilled some backstage Idol secrets, including butting heads a few times due to their similar outspoken personalities. But Sokyrka had the juiciest gossip of all, tattling on Hoggard's and fellow finalist Joshua Seller's revealing mansion behaviour. "Josh and Jacob are outside of my window screaming, 'Theresa, Theresa.' I come to the window and see the two of them naked with a beach ball in front of them. I almost died." Eye on Idol |
