Kalan Porter Blasts On To Music Scene with Biggest Single Debut Ever
Toronto, ON (October 21, 2004) - Canadian Idol winner Kalan Porter's smash hit single Awake in a Dream has become the highest-selling single debut of all time for a Canadian artist. Already Eight-Times Platinum, Awake in a Dream debuted at Number One on Nielsen's Soundscan chart last week, selling more units than any other artist on the Canadian charts, including Hilary Duff, Usher and Bryan Adams. The highest-selling record in Canada last week, Awake in a Dream outsold its nearest competitor by a phenomenal 6,500 per cent. The monster single remains at Number One on this week's charts and is rocketing towards diamond status. Porter's success follows in the footsteps of last year's Canadian Idol winner, Ryan Malcolm. Malcolm's debut single, Something More remained at the top of Canada's Singles Chart for 13 straight weeks and was on the chart for over seven months. As announced yesterday by Vik.recordings / BMG, Kalan Porter's debut full-length release arrives in stores Nov. 23. The as yet-untitled CD is currently being recorded with the likes of legendary rock hero Randy Bachman as well as hit producing duo Perry Alexander and Rob Wells. ViK.recordings / BMG Canada describes the CD as "a striking collection of rock-fringed tunes, beautifully orchestrated ballads and a unique pop sensibility." Porter, 18, won the second Canadian Idol crown on Sept. 16 in front of an audience of 4.2 million viewers on CTV. The Medicine Hat native now lives in Toronto and has been recording his new CD steadily since his win. Porter will perform at the 2004 Legends Classic hockey game at Toronto's Air Canada Centre on Nov. 6 as part of the 2004 Hockey Hall of Fame Induction Weekend.
