Top 10: Interview with Kalan Porter
Kalan Porter, the third competitor to crack the Top 10, chatted with Eye on Idol about his music plans, dealing with sudden fame and what he hopes people will see in the upcoming competition. Idol: First of all, how did you sleep? Kalan: Pretty good. I've been pretty tired, but I slept well last night. Idol: Have you been eating well? Kalan: Yeah, eating has become secondary, but I'm going to start getting back into eating better. I've been skipping meals a little, not intentionally. Idol: Who was the first person you called to break the good news? Kalan: My dad was actually at the show, so he knew first. Idol: How many phone calls did you receive or have to make? Kalan: I had a list of people I needed to call and thank, grandparents, who have just been so great, and friends too. Idol: How does it feel to, all of a sudden, be in demand for interviews and appearances? Do you think you could get used to it? Kalan: It's really exciting and a bit overwhelming and a bit of a shock. I think when I go home it will sink in. I've always wanted to play music. I haven't dreamt of the fame but I've always wanted to play music as a career. Idol: You've got some time before competition for you resumes again. What are you planning to do with your time? Do you have gigs to do? Kalan: People are wondering, "Can you do it? Can you do it?" So I have to work around it. I've gotten approval to do the Medicine Hat Festival on July 1st. There's a few other little things... Idol: What are you planning to bring to your performance in the Top 10 to make you stand out? Is there something you know for sure you’re going to do different? Kalan: I know I'm still learning a lot. I know there's definitely things that when I'm in the band, everyone is interacting and there's energy in the audience and everything. I know I'm coming across as a little more shy, and I think that's OK but I'm definitely hoping that people can see me open up through out this competition. Idol: And, what would be the first thing you'd buy if you won? Kalan: Oh, I don't know. Probably something that will help me in my career. |
