She's Come Undone: Casey LeBlanc's Canadian Idol Bid Comes to an End
|
Toronto, Ontario (August 24, 2005) ? She won the hearts of an entire province, but Casey LeBlanc's quest to capture the third Canadian Idol crown has come to an end. The 17-year-old pride of Nackawic, NB was eliminated on tonight's live Canadian Idol broadcast on CTV. LeBlanc received the fewest votes out of a season-high 3.4 million cast after last night's tribute to the music of Burton Cummings and The Guess Who. The episode attracted a whopping 2.5 million viewers, the biggest audience so far this season.* Two guys and two girls remain in the competition ? from British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Newfoundland - as Canadian Idol salutes The Music of Elvis Presley next week. Backed by a seven-piece rock band fronted by Canadian Idol musical director Orin Isaacs, the Top Five opened the show with a continuation of last night's tribute to the music of Burton Cummings and The Guess Who. The all-Canadian rock medley featured the classic hits "No Time Left For You," "Albert Flasher," and "Stand Tall." With the Top Five at center stage, host Ben Mulroney then revealed which competitors were safe for another week. After three sat down, standing with their Idol future on the line were the two competitors who had received the least amount of votes: LeBlanc and 22-year-old singer Suzi Rawn, from Kamloops, BC. Ultimately, Suzi Rawn escaped elimination once again and Mulroney announced that it was LeBlanc who was going home as the sixth competitor to be eliminated from the Top 10. LeBlanc closed the show with a reprise of her performance last night, Burton Cummings' "Timeless Love." In addition to Rawn, the remaining finalists are Rex Goudie, 19, Burlington, NL; Melissa O'Neil, 17, Calgary, AB and Aaron Walpole, 26, St. Thomas, ON. The Top Four will perform at a free (with the price of admission) hour-long concert at Toronto's Canadian National Exhibition Band Shell this Friday, August 26 at 4 p.m. The fab four will sign autographs after the event. In 2004, over 7,000 people showed up for the "Idols at the EX" event, attracting the biggest audience at the Band Shell last summer. Following Friday's appearance, the Top Four will jet off to Memphis, TN for the weekend in preparation for next week's shows featuring The Music of Elvis Presley. In addition to visiting Graceland, the Idols will also rehearse and workshop at the legendary Sun Studio, the birthplace of Rock and Roll. On the next performance show, airing Tuesday, August 30 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CTV, they perform two songs each by The King. Contrary to previously released information, Season Two runner-up will not perform on next Wednesday's Results Show (August 31). Canadian Idol "High Notes," a compilation CD from Sony BMG Music (Canada) Ltd. featuring performances by all 10 Canadian Idol finalists, was released on Tuesday and is now in stores. The Canadian Idol Top 10 will appear at a performance and autograph signing this Friday at Toronto's Fairview Mall at 12 noon. Tickets to Canadian Idol's live performance and results shows are available at all Ticketmaster outlets, online at www.ticketmaster.ca or by telephone (check local listings). Tickets go on sale at 12 noon on the Tuesday prior to the next week's shows and sell out quickly. Rush tickets are also available to the most enthusiastic fans showing up at the John Bassett Theatre two hours before show time. Visit idol.ctv.ca for more information. |
