Julie Tellier
Age: 25 "My ultimate goal is to get opportunities to perform – whether it is through Canadian Idol or not – this is what I want!" Julie Tellier is not going to have any problem getting time off to participate in Canadian Idol. She was encouraged to audition by her boss after hearing Julie sing at the company Christmas party. "The whole company is being extremely supportive," she says. Inspired by Celine Dion, Julie began singing at the age of seven. "Her voice and songs made me want to sing," she says. No wonder the best day of her life was the time she met the French-Canadian superstar at the age of 14 at the Montreal Forum. "This was a great moment in my life," she says. Julie has performed at weddings, funerals and local bar gigs. "I was always told that I could sing but never took it seriously," she says. Julie likes to dance and is currently taking Flamenco lessons. She enjoys alpine skiing and makes her own jewelry. Julie loves Indian food, shoes and Tout le Monde en Parle and says she could not live without her lip balm. She says that next to Canadian Idol, the most fulfilling experience of her life was the six months she spent in Southeast Asia, traveling through Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and Nepal. "I want to share with viewers my experience – I want them to know about my open spirit, my down-to-earth thinking and my simple personality."

What are you the most proud of? The fact that I made it this far in the competition. You have no idea how surprised and overwhelmed I am by all that is happening. Which item could you not live without? I could absolutely not live without my lip balm...I'm completely addicted to it. What's been the best day of your life? The day that I met Celine Dion. It took place at the Forum. My mother had VIP tickets from work and invited me. I liked her so much it was obvious that I was the person to take. I shook her hand and took a nice picture with her. If you could meet one person, living or dead, who would it be and why? I would certainly choose to meet Tina Turner. I admire her strength and courage and talent of course. I would like to share some thoughts with her, discuss and learn from life. She's gone through so much. What do you think has gotten you this far in the competition? I'm not quite sure what brought me this far in the competition. I was always told that I could sing but never took it seriously and never did anything about it. One thing I do know though is that I love to be on stage and sing. I would guess that it shows and that might be what brought me this far. What will it take for you to become the Canadian Idol? It will require a lot of hard work, self-confidence build up and practice, practice, practice. What has been the most challenging part of the competition so far? Each and every moment in this competition has been a challenge to me. From day one to actually show up at the auditions in Montreal, to getting the Gold Ticket?!? Wow. The whole week in Toronto, having to sing imposed songs and learn them in such a short amount of time... Whose career path would you like to follow and why? I would love to follow Tina Turner's career path...She and Ike have succeeded in a way not many have. Then she stumbled but got back on her feet and here she is still rolling at the age of 65. It's amazing. Not many people get to do what they love and do well for so long. What part of the Canadian Idol experience has surprised you the most? The week we spent in Toronto. I never expected to have songs imposed and that definitely affected me. But hey, I'm still in the picture. What did you learn about yourself during the Top 100? I learned what a slow-learner I am for new songs. I also found out that I can deal with cameras, judges, producers...I'm not quite pro yet but at least I don't feel too odd! You never know until you try it. What was your reaction when you made the Top 32? Breathe! Breathe! I was stunned and shocked and out of words. Not a moment had I even dared think I had made it. I was so upset with my auditions. Wow, they haven't a clue how grateful I am for this second chance. Who has been the greatest inspiration of your life? The greatest inspiration in my life is my mother. She is such a beautiful, intelligent, generous, strong woman. I learn a lot from my mama! She is simply amazing and I am extremely lucky to have her. Who has helped to make you the singer you are today? No one in particular has helped me to become the singer that I am. I have always keind of hept that to myself and therefore no one really helped me out or guided me. What song touches you the most? Why does it affect you so much? The music that touches me the most is Gospel and Blues. The deepness of some songs as well as the roundness of some voices are what move me and give me the goosebumps. What song title best describes you? There are too many... What do you do to keep your nerves in check during the competition? Breathe. Think of how much I love to sing and perform in front of audiences and hold my lucky charms while thinking of the people I love. How has this competition changed you? It's changed me in many different ways. It's brought music back into the picture. I had stoppped singing for a while but surely am getting back with no holding back this time. I think I realized that there might actually be some talent there, some potential to grow into something more than a shower singer. We'll see. Which words or phrases do you most overuse? I'm not sure that I overuse any specific word or phrase...sorry, I asked around but nothing seems to come up. |
