An evening full of emotion and surprise unfolded Thursday night on Canadian Idol as the show got down to its second last week, revealing Abbotsford, B.C.'s Jacob Hoggard as the eighth hopeful to be eliminated from the competition.

Hoggard's third-place finish leaves 18-year-old Kalan Porter and 23-year-old Theresa Sokyrka as the final two competitors who will vie for the Idol crown on Thursday, Sept. 16.

The voting results from the "Judges' Choice" episode appeared to have shocked the audience who received the news of Hoggard's elimination with a chorus of boos.

After announcing Hoggard's name, Ben Mulroney said, "I feel really, really bad right now. But I don't feel bad for you, I feel bad for us. I feel bad for the people at home."

The 20-year-old physical performer received the lowest number of votes out of a record 3.7 million cast on Wednesday night.

But, despite the results, the judges extended their support and well wishes to Hoggard.

"We're really gonna miss you and anytime you want to make a record, you know where to find me buddy. Go Hedley," Jake Gold said.

"Any problems you have with anybody, anywhere, you've got four people here who truly, really care about what happens to you," Farley Flex said.

Hoggard, then, offered some parting words to his fans.

"To the people that have supported me up until now, I thank you and don't stop supporting me because the end of this show is the beginning of me," he vowed.

Sporting a t-shirt bearing the name of his band, Hoggard rocked out one final time to Aerosmith's I Don't' Want to Miss a Thing.

The evening also saw the return of last year's fourth-place Idol finalist, Audrey de Montigny, who performed her first English-language single, I Keep Crying.

Her advice to this year's remaining finalists was "be yourself, enjoy your experience and have fun."

The final two contenders have one last chance to make their final impression on the voters on Wednesday 8 p.m. ET before the new Canadian Idol is crowned on Thursday night.
