What is the CTV Primetime Widget

The CTV Primetime Widget is a completely FREE desktop application that will keep you connected to your favorite CTV shows.

The CTV Primetime Widget allows users to receive breaking news, listings and contest information about their favourite CTV shows sent directly to their desktop.

The CTV Primetime Widget is moveable so you can position it anywhere on your screen.

The CTV Primetime Widget can be closed at anytime and you can re-set your preferences through the 'Preferences' link in the ‘Settings’ tab.

How do I download the CTV Widget

  1. Go to ctv.ca/primetimewidget.
  2. Click the download link.
  3. Follow the installation and registration instructions to finish adding the widget to your desktop!

How do I open the CTV Primetime Widget

Once the application has been downloaded, you should see the login screen that will ask you to set your preferences. Once you have set your preferences and completed the registration process, the CTV Primetime Widget will automatically launch. If you wish to close it right click on the icon in your tool bar and select ‘exit’.

Depending on how you set your preferences, alerts will appear on your desktop. [is this line actually true? A widget user always receives alerts, correct?]

To minimize the widget window, simply click the ‘X’ on the top right corner of the widget window.

To open the main widget window again, just click on the CTV icon in your system tray (doc on a Mac).

PC

Right click on the CTV icon in your system tray and choose ‘Open’ and the main window will appear. Alternatively, you can double click on the Widget icon on your desktop.

MAC

The application can be opened or closed at anytime by clicking on the icon in your doc and selecting exit.

You can re-set your preferences at anytime through the ’Settings’ tab on the main widget window.

How do I exit the application?

PC

If you don’t want the CTV Primetime Widget running on your desktop, click the small ‘x’ on the top right corner of the widget window or right click on the Widget icon in your tool bar and choose ‘Exit’.

MAC

If you don’t want the CTV Primetime Widget running on your desktop, click the small ‘x’ on the top right corner of the widget window or choose ‘Exit’ after clicking on the doc icon. [is that a right click on a mac?]

To use the CTV Primetime Widget, your computer needs to be able to run the latest version of Adobe AIR, for which Adobe provides versions for Windows, Macintosh and Linux.

Why can't I see any news or schedule information?

If the connection to the CTV server is lost the widget content will not display. An error message will be displayed.

What is Adobe Air?

Is Adobe Air secure?

Adobe AIR helps ensure safe installations by requiring digital signatures on each AIR application that identify the application and its creator before you install.

What is a delivery management server or download server?

Delivery errors occur when your computer loses connection to the network.

Typically, this is because a security program or router is blocking access and you need to make some settings changes.

Please note that in some cases, updates to Windows, your security program or the CTV Primetime Widget application may result in you having to check or reset your security settings.

In the first instance it is always best to check that your security settings are not blocking access to the CTV Primetime Widget.

Firewall settings?

If you have a firewall on your computer (eg Norton, McAfee or AVG), it might be interfering with the CTV Primetime Widget.

You need to make sure your firewall settings allow the CTV Primetime Widget 'permission' to connect to the internet so it won't be blocked.

These examples show the correct firewall settings for Norton Utilities and Windows XP SP2.2 (Service Pack 2.2)

It is possible that the exact location of these settings could change according to the version of your firewall software.

Please follow the steps below.

Windows XP SP2.2

When you first install the CTV Primetime Widget, you should see the standard warning about installing a program. If you allow it, it should be approved automatically.

If the program doesn't install correctly, it's possible that it may be blocked by the firewall. Follow the steps below.

  1. To unblock, open the Windows Control Panel from your Start menu and launch the Security Centre. Under Manage Security Settings, click Windows Firewall.
  2. Make sure that the CTV Primetime Widget is listed and ticked on the list of programs in the Exceptions tab. If it's not listed in Exceptions, select Add Program and then add the CTV Primetime Widget to the list.

Windows Vista

When you first install the CTV Primetime Widget, you should see the standard warning about installing a program. If you allow it, it should be approved automatically.

  1. To unblock, open the Windows Control Panel from your Start menu and launch Windows Firewall click on Change Settings.
  2. At the security prompt, click Continue.
  3. Make sure that the CTV Primetime Widget is listed and ticked on the list of programs in the Exceptions tab. If it's not listed in Exceptions, select Add Program and then add the CTV Primetime Widget to the list.

What if I don’t have administrator rights to install the application?

If you don't have admin rights on your machine then you cannot install the application.

Contact the administrator who has rights to allow you to install the application.

How do I uninstall the CTV Primetime Widget?

PC

Step 1
Go to your start menu and choose ‘Control Panel’.

Step 2
Click on ‘Add or Remove Programs’

.

Step 3
Select ‘the CTV Primetime Widget from the list.

Step 4
Click on the ‘Remove’ button.

Wait while the application is uninstalled.

MAC

Step 1
Open the "Finder" and navigate to the "Applications" folder

Step 2
Locate the CTV Primetime Widget.app

Step 3
Either drag to the "Trash" or right click > "Move to Trash"

Step 4
"Empty Trash" by holding down the mouse button on the "Trash" icon in the "Mac OS X" dock.
