Billy Talent
Try Honesty

After honing their skills on the underground scene, Toronto four-piece Billy Talent broke through in a big way with their self-titled major label debut. The single "Try Honesty" was a hit here and in the U.K. and U.S., and it typifies a guitar-fuelled rock sound that is both aggressive and accessibly melodic. They appeared on the Area: 2 tour and have a real love of performance. "Playing live comes first for us," says drummer Aaron Solowoniuk.

This group is also nominated for the New Group of the Year | Rock Album of the Year

Nelly Furtado
Powerless (Say What You Want)

Ever since she burst onto the scene in 2000 with her debut, Whoa, Nelly!, there has been no stopping Nelly Furtado. That album was an international multi-platinum smash, and four JUNOs and a Grammy (for hit single "I'm Like A Bird") followed. The eagerly-anticipated second record, Folklore, sees Nelly stretch her creative wings and showcases Nelly’s refreshing willingness to explore a wide range of styles. "I like to navigate through all sorts of genres," she explains. The result is a perfect brand of global pop, as exemplified by first single "Powerless."

This artist is also nominated for:
Album of the Year | Artist of the Year | Pop Album of the Year | Songwriter of the Year

Nickelback
Someday

With international sales of over 10 million copies, 2001s Silver Side Up placed Vancouver-based hard rockers Nickelback in the rock elite. That album featured one of the most-played singles in radio history, "How You Remind Me." The band is back on top with their fourth CD, The Long Road, already a double platinum smash here. "We've pushed things further in every way possible," says mainman Chad Kroeger of the release. Nickelback and Chad won a 2003 JUNO as Songwriter Of The Year.

This group is also nominated for: Juno Fan Choice | Group of the Year | Rock Album of the Year | Album of the Year

Our Lady Peace
Innocent

Modern rock band Our Lady Peace have sustained a large fan following by releasing consistently adventurous yet accessible work. They won a Best Album JUNO last year for their fifth release, Gravity, a record that spawned hit singles "Somewhere Out There" and "Innocent." OLP's second album, Clumsy, sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide, and reached the rare diamond sales plateau here.

This group is also nominated for: Group of the Year | Music DVD of the Year

Shaye
Happy Baby

You can term Shaye a Canadian supergroup, as it unites three successful and skilled singer/songwriters, Kim Stockwood, Damhnait Doyle, and Tara MacLean. They all hail from the East Coast, and their personal empathy shines through on their triumphant debut album, The Bridge. Their writing and vocal styles are both diverse and complementary, and together, you can’t imagine them apart.
