Billy Talent
Atlantic/Warner
|
 |
After honing their skills on the underground scene, Toronto four-piece
Billy Talent broke through in a big way with their self-titled major
label debut. The single "Try Honesty" was a hit here and in
the U.K. and U.S., and it typifies a guitar-fuelled rock sound that
is both aggressive and accessibly melodic. They appeared on the Area:
2 tour and have a real love of performance. "Playing live comes
first for us," says drummer Aaron Solowoniuk.
This artist is also nominated for: Single of the Year | Rock Album of the Year

The Dears
MapleMusic/Universal
|
 |
Built
around the cinematic pop symphonettes of leader Murray Lightburn, Montreal’s
The Dears have dazzled critics and fans across Canada with powerful performances
and a catalogue now comprising two full-length album and two EPs. The
title of their 2001 EP, Orchestral Pop Noir Romantique, serves as a fitting
description of their lush and endearing sound. |

Lillix
Maverick/Warner
|
 |
The
pride of Cranbrook, B.C., the four young women of Lillix are attracting
real attention with the punchy pop-rock sound of their debut CD, Falling
Uphill. It was recorded with such hitmakers as Linda Perry, The Matrix,
and Glenn Ballard, but the band are far from a prefabricated creation.
"Our music comes from the heart," says guitarist/vocalist Tasha-Ray
Evin. "Everything that we write, we believe in. That's what propels
this band."
This group is also nominated for: Pop Album of the Year |

Three Days Grace
Jive/Zomba/BMG
|
 |
Toronto-based band Three Days Grace produce potent and hard-edged rock,
featuring melodic choruses and lyrics exploring the dark side of the
tracks. Their songwriting ability attracted the attention of EMI Music
Publishing, and work with producer/writer Gavin Brown (Billy Talent)
has paid off with the success of Three Days Grace's incendiary self-titled
debut.

The Trews
Bumstead/Sony
|
 |
Nova
Scotia-raised, Niagara Falls-based rockers The Trews are finding their
dedication and strong work ethic are paying off. Their sound has been
described as a combination of seamless blue-eyed soul and chunky rock
'n roll. High-energy shows are another trademark. In the past year, The
Trews played more shows than any other artist on the Agency Group roster,
one that includes Nickelback and Sam Roberts. |
