Jack Richardson Producer of the Year

Northern Ontario native Malcolm Burn cut his teeth as a member of '80s Toronto faves Boys Brigade. Under the mentorship of Daniel Lanois, he developed into a much-praised producer. He has worked with such artists as Robbie Robertson, Bob Dylan and Junkhouse, and his approach has matched the gorgeous voice of Emmylou Harris perfectly.

As a drummer and guitarist, Gavin Brown has played for such acts as Big Sugar, Sarah Harmer and Jim Cuddy. He's now recognised as a first-rate writer and producer whose credits include Danko Jones, Danny Michel, and Ryan Malcolm. His work with hot young rockers Billy Talent and Three Days Grace has played a crucial role in their success.

Toronto studio wizard Joćo Carvalho has worked on albums by such artists as Skydiggers, Hayden, and modern rockers Pilate. He has his own world-class mastering studio, Joćo Carvalho Mastering, and enjoys a golden reputation within the Canadian music community.

Hamilton-raised producer/singer/songwriter Daniel Lanois is a recent inductee into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. That honour recognized his status as one of contemporary music's most successful and innovative record producers. He has won numerous JUNO and Grammy Awards and has worked with such greats as Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson and Emmylou Harris. He and Brian Eno have played a key role in U2's career. Lanois has also released three acclaimed solo albums, the latest being last year's much-lauded Shine.

The multi-faceted Pierre Marchand is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter as well as a producer and engineer with a Midas touch. He has worked extensively with Sarah McLachlan, co-writing some of her material. Working in his rural Quebec studio, Marchand is noted for the sonic clarity of his productions.
