Shawn Desman
|
 |
After
making a splash in the Latin market from an early age, Toronto-raised
singer/songwriter Shawn Desman has crossed over big-time in the past two
years. His self-titled solo debut has gone gold and generated hit singles
and videos like "Get Ready" and "Shook." Its sound
is an appealing hybrid of R & B., hiphop and pop strains. A skilled
dancer and actor, Shawn is definitely a star on the rise. He received
two JUNO Award nominations last year. |

Celine Dion

Global
superstar Celine Dion just keeps on adding new chapters to her remarkable
success story. The amazing statistics include over 160 million albums
sold, and six Grammy, 20 JUNO and 39 Felix Awards. Her three-year engagement
in Las Vegas is shattering more records, yet Celine found time to deliver
two more albums last year, Une Fille et 4 Types (her first French-language
CD in five years) and One Heart. Each confirms that her vocal virtuosity
remains intact.

Nelly Furtado
|
 |
Ever since she burst onto the scene in 2000 with her debut, Whoa, Nelly!,
there has been no stopping Nelly Furtado. That album was an international
multi-platinum smash, and four JUNOs and a Grammy (for hit single "I'm
Like A Bird") followed. The eagerly-anticipated second record,
Folklore, sees Nelly stretch her creative wings and showcases Nelly’s
refreshing willingness to explore a wide range of styles. "I like
to navigate through all sorts of genres," she explains. The result
is a perfect brand of global pop, as exemplified by first single "Powerless."

An
extended and well-deserved break from the business certainly didn't diminish
the creative gifts or the popularity of famed songstress Sarah McLachlan.
Her new CD, Afterglow, soared straight to the top of the Canadian charts,
and brought her both JUNO and Grammy nominations. A 42-date North American
tour this summer will reunite Sarah with legions of fans still cherishing

Sam Roberts
|
 |
After
years of heavy dues paid in bands like William and Northstar, Montrealer
Sam Roberts hit the jackpot with 2002's breakthrough independent EP, The
Inhuman Condition. It's verging on gold status and hits like "Brother
Down" and "Don't Walk Away Eileen" showed Sam's range and
melodic gifts. Full-length debut We Were Born In A Flame showed he's the
real deal, a new populist rock hero.
