Aiming to quiet critics and please Canadians, Finance Minister Ralph Goodale has tabled a budget packed with tax cuts and plans for billions in new spending.
The federal budget promises $12.8 billion in defence spending over five years, to the cheers of many. Critics say, however, that the amount still won't stop the 'hemorrhaging' of the military.
The Liberals are bending opposition demands to provide more funding for sustaining the environment, while taking steps to encourage alternate sources of energy.
Ralph Goodale told CTV's Mike Duffy that all three opposition parties in Parliament had input into his budget, but there was no secret deal to get it eventually passed.
