OLYMPIC DEBUT
1928 St. Moritz, Switzerland
ORIGINS
Skeleton is considered the first sliding sport and helped lay the foundation for bobsleigh. It originated in Switzerland in the town of St. Moritz.
Men's and women's skeleton were added to the Olympic program in 2002, but men's skeleton was contested at both the 1928 and 1948 Olympics in St. Moritz.
The sport received its unique name when a steel sled was introduced in 1892 and people though it looked like a skeleton. |
