OLYMPIC DEBUT
1924 Chamonix, France
ORIGINS
All the events in Nordic Combined (ski jumping and cross country skiing) have Norwegian roots - some going back over 5,000 years.
From Norway, the sport spread to the rest of Scandinavia and parts of Russia. It was exclusively a military competition until 1843, when civilians were first entered. World Championships have been held for the event since 1925.
The team competition was added to the Olympics in 1988, and the sprint in 2002. |
